I second what @Cosy_Catastophe said. Also, if you liked, you could always vary it by generation. If you're having trouble choosing an heir and don't have one clear favourite for a particular generation, put it to a vote! But if another generation gives you one potential heir you like a lot more than others, then you could definitely choose yourself and not let readers vote :)
