I used to just use freerealestate on to have my Sims live in whichever world I wanted them to live in. Works out really nicely for a honeymoon, for instance. Then just do the same to put them back in their original residence. It's not quite the same, but it does work, at least for me.
I've done this before too. I put pictures up all over my houses and I'm worried that the pictures will get lost when moving from house to house. So far I've not had that happen though. I appreciate your suggestions, they are well thought out.
It sucks to lose decor and furnishing like this. I spend so much time building, I wish they weren't destroyed by moving. It's one of the reasons I turn off moving in neighbourhood stories, so my worlds are under-populated and it's finicky to manually manage the households. I know I can save lots to my library, but I don't do that every day.
