Add a Game Option to Disable GTW Illnesses for the Played Household

Here's another Get to Work request—small in scope, but big in impact for a lot of players. I'd like a Game Option toggle to disable GTW illnesses for the played household.

What I'm Talking About

Get to Work introduced the illness system: Sims can catch colds, the flu, food poisoning, and other ailments, visit the doctor, take medicine, and recover. It ties into the Doctor career and the hospital, and it's a nice bit of realism on paper.

But for many players, it's an unwelcome interruption.

The Problem

  1. Illnesses are unavoidable and random. A Sim can wake up sick on the morning of their wedding, a big promotion day, or the one evening you have free to play. There's no way to prevent it.
  2. They interrupt storytelling. If I'm playing a carefully-paced legacy or a dramatic story arc, a random cold derails the mood. "The family is grieving a loss" becomes "and also someone has a runny nose and needs to go to the clinic."
  3. They add busywork. Treating an illness means a trip to the doctor, waiting in the hospital, buying medicine, or sleeping it off. That's fine when you want it—it's tedious when you don't.
  4. There's no off switch. Weather has a toggle. Vampires, werewolves, and abductions (hopefully) have toggles. Illnesses—a purely negative, involuntary event—have none.

The Proposal

A Game Option toggle, something like:

  • "Enable Illnesses for Played Household" — default on, so nothing changes for players who enjoy the system.

When disabled:

  • Sims in the actively played household never catch GTW illnesses.
  • The Doctor career and hospital still function for players who use them (NPC patients can still be sick).
  • Unplayed and NPC Sims are unaffected, so the world still feels alive.

Why "Played Household" Specifically

This is the key detail. I'm not asking to remove illnesses from the game world—I'm asking for relief for the household the player is actively controlling. That's the same philosophy behind the existing occult toggles: they don't delete vampires from the save, they just stop them from affecting your play experience. A player who wants illness gameplay keeps it; a player who doesn't can opt out without gutting the Doctor career or the hospital lot for everyone else.

Why Game Options (Not a Lot Trait or Item)

I know there are in-world workarounds—the "No Illness" lot trait, cheats, and mods—but:

  • Lot traits require slotting them and only cover one lot. Sims get sick on community lots and vacations too.
  • Cheats require remembering and typing them every time.
  • Mods shouldn't be necessary for a basic opt-out of an involuntary negative event.
  • A Game Options toggle is persistent, save-wide, and matches how the game already handles other occults and systems.

TL;DR

  • Add "Enable Illnesses for Played Household" to Game Options.
  • Default on; turning it off stops GTW illnesses only for the active household.
  • Doctor career, hospital, and NPC illnesses remain untouched.

Gurus, is this something that could be considered? It's a tiny toggle that would remove a persistent source of friction for storytellers, challenge players, and anyone who just wants a calm play session.
