Re: Auto Save Idea

I honestly wish The Sims Team would add an auto save feature. It would save countless number of people time and their sanity. Like I’m really surprised this not a feature with the hours of gameplay Sims4 gamers put into the game.
Also just an idea let the gamer set when the auto save happen. Example they 30 mins etc.

I'm glad TS4 doesn't have an autosave. I have fixed countless problems with my game through the very simple method of exiting without saving and then loading again. It's often impossible to do that with games that use autosaves.

TS4 already asks whether you want to save whenever you Exit to Main Menu, Exit Game, switch households, or go to Manage Worlds, with Yes as the default. That's good enough for me.

If you don't mind using mods, MCCC has an auto save feature. I use it all the time. To many crashes after playing for hours and losing everything, for me not to use it.

Exactly, no one wants autosave when disaster strikes and your sim is accidentally killed by the Murphy bed.

I don't know if I'm for or against auto-save built into the game, but I do use it with MCCC. But I don't know if my mind made this up or not, but I thought there was auto-save back when The Sims 4 first came out. I remember it would auto-save as a separate file so if we wanted to exit without saving we could do that too.

Heck no unless I can toggle it off immediately
as painful as it is sometimes to forget saving it would be more painful if it saved at totally wrong times
like this dang forum autosave I keep having to cancel.

like ''oh you just corrupted your entire lot let me autosave that for you real quick'' no thanks 😩

No, I need the ability to quit the game without saving. I've had Sims die on their honeymoon. Sometimes I get started rebuilding a lot and just want it back to what I had before. On patch days like today I need to test mods and may have to go in and out of game without saving. All kinds of reasons.

I know it's sad though if your game crashes and you lose some wonderful moment. I try to save periodically throughout the Sim day to avoid this, but it has happened.

However I would rather have to recreate some moments rather than have to resurrect a Sim or fix a save.

Having an Auto Save that rotates over a number of save files (as you can set up in MCCC) means you have a bit of a safety net. Also within each save file you can select previous saves going back a few saves. Not sure if that's base game or the mod.

Honestly from what I recall there was an auto save at one point but it caused so many issues they removed it. I personally wouldn't like it but I save so often I rarely use a lot of progress. Years of simming taught me that.

I think having an auto save option would be great 😀 That way people who want it could use it, but those who don't could leave it turned off.

Why isn’t there an auto save on sims 4???

I just lost half of my game because the game crashed, it is annoying to have to manually save as it takes up gaming time and can be easily forgotten to do..

@Mezler99 Sadly no. If you are on a platform that allows the use of Mods, then there is an autosave function in the MC Command Center mod that can be used to avoid lost gameplay.

Autosaves would be even more annoying, since the game overwrites the existing save whenever it makes a new save. I don't want an autosave because I rely on being able to exit without saving and reload when things go wrong, or even when I'm just experimenting. There are probably many other players who feel the same way I do and probably for the same reason.

I know it's annoying to lose progress because your game crashed but I still think it's better to let players decide for themselves when to save.

Nothing wrong with having the feature and let the players decide if they want it on or off. If you don't want it, you can keep it off, people who want it can go into settings and turn it on. Much better than not having it at all. It should be an option

No autosaves! I once had a Sim outside starwatching, killed by a falling satellite. I had heard this could happen and was absolutely shocked. Imagine my dismay when another household member went out to where her sister had just died, and she decided to do the same thing! Before I could react, SHE died by the same thing, another falling satellite. 🤣 It was too funny, but totally wrecked my story, so being able to leave without saving can literally be a life saver to a Simmie!

An autosave feature would have to be optional, and I recommend toggled "off" by default.

Lots of simmers (as others have commented) quit without saving when something bad happens that they don't want for their story.

I also quit without saving on purpose when I am shooting screenshots for my very scripted simit story.  The day goes too fast in this game and the lighting changes too quickly.  To get all the screenshots I need for the story, I set everything up at the start of the time of day that I want, shoot as many screenshots as I can until the light changes too noticeably, and then quit without saving so I can come back into the game at the starting point of that lighting and shoot more screenshots I need to finish the scene.

An autosave feature that I can't turn off would make this impossible.

I don’t think it’s a full on auto save but we have something on console where it automatically saves when you quit or go to the menu.  But it doesn’t save over your save, it’s like an extra “last saved” save.  Which I’ve sometimes used because I forgot to save.

Can we please get auto-save for the Sims 4? I don't think there is a single feature that would make me more excited. I consistently lose HOURS worth of building, CAS, and gameplay because I forget that I need to save until I'm closing the game. Then, I get frustrated and can't bring myself to play again for like a week after my game crashes and I lose so much work. Even just once an hour or two would be amazing! Or when you switch lots since there's a loading screen anyway? It just feels like there should be something to protect you from losing so much progress.

I believe there is an auto save feature in the MCCC mod.

Thank you! I don't play with mods normally because I don't like how my game gets messed up with updates. I'll try this!

Unfortunately they took the auto-save feature away. I guess too many people didn't like it before.

I can get why a lot of players wouldn't like autosave due to play styles - certain storytelling styles. I also can get wanting autosave for certain play styles - different kind of storytelling and plain building things. In the end, they probably should have made autosave an optional thing you could toggle on or off.
