Also, if mod creators join the Sims Team to make their mods update with the game, those mods will have to become DLCs to get the auto-update along with the game itself. A problem in that is that the mod will come under EA copyrights and if there's a disagreement between mod creator and the Sims Team, the mod creator could get fired and lose access to the mod they created, allowing the Sims Team to do whatever they like with the mod made a DLC. Also, the mods that become a DLC might also end up behind a pay wall, where you have to pay to play.
