do you mean the standard plant beds and planters ? You just use things like other plants or fish on those to fertilize.
There's only fertilizer in cottage living (oversized).
Please let me know if you mean something else.
EDIT: Seems there are mods that add those so maybe that's what you were reading about ? Since you never had any mods/cc I assume you never had the option yourself ?
