Diverse Hairstyles and Customization Options for Console Players

To The Sims 4 Team,

Dear The Sims 4 Team,

I am writing as a longtime and dedicated Sims player, specifically as someone who plays The Sims 4 on console. I understand that PC players have access to additional customization options through mods and custom content, including hairstyles that are not available to console players. I completely understand that mods are a part of the PC experience, but I also believe that console players deserve more diverse and detailed options directly from the game itself.

One of the biggest areas I would love to see improved is hairstyles. I would especially like to see more hairstyles featuring braids, locs, twists, natural textures, and protective styles. I would love for these hairstyles to have more realistic texture and detail rather than feeling like a limited selection compared to what is available through custom content on PC.

Representation matters to me. Hair is a huge part of identity, culture, and personal expression, and I want to be able to create Sims that look like real people and reflect the diversity of the players who have supported this game for so many years.

I also want to point out something that makes the console experience particularly frustrating. I have purchased just about every world available in The Sims 4, and those purchases cannot simply transfer over if I decide to switch from console to PC. Because of that, switching platforms just to have access to more customization options isn’t a realistic solution for me. I have invested a significant amount of money and, more importantly, years of time into my Sims experience on console.

I have been playing The Sims since before I could even talk. I grew up in a household where The Sims has been played since the 2000s, so this isn’t just a game I recently picked up. The Sims has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have watched the franchise grow and change throughout the years, and I genuinely want to see it continue becoming more inclusive for everyone.

I also want to make it clear that I would love the opportunity to contribute ideas. If The Sims team ever opened a way for players to submit hairstyle concepts, I would happily share ideas for hairstyles that I would love to see added to the game. I would even be willing to draw out hairstyle concepts and send sketches or references to help communicate exactly what I mean.

I don’t expect every idea from players to be added, but I think the community has so many creative ideas that could help make The Sims even better. There are players who know exactly what hairstyles, textures, braids, locs, and other styles they would love to see represented in the game. Giving players an opportunity to submit those ideas could be an amazing way for The Sims team to hear directly from the community.

I am asking The Sims team to please consider giving console players more of the hairstyles and customization options that PC players can access through mods. We should not have to change platforms or rely on third-party content to create Sims with realistic, diverse, textured hair.

I love The Sims, and I want to continue supporting the game. This letter comes from a place of genuine love for the franchise and a desire to see it continue growing. I hope you will listen to the console community and consider expanding the variety, realism, and cultural diversity of hairstyles available to us.

And if there is ever an opportunity for players to submit actual hairstyle concepts or drawings, I would absolutely love to participate. I have ideas I would genuinely love to share with you.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and for everything you have done to make The Sims a game that generations of players can enjoy.

Sincerely,
A lifelong Sims player

You have to understand that consoles are much more limited in hardware capabilities such as a high end PC. The Sims 4 on console is running on PS4 and Xbox One versions and these are much lower spec than modern PCs and therefore consoles handle textures differently compared to how PCs do.

You have to understand that this isn't specifically an EA thing. There are thousands of games that you cannot transfew between console and PC for a multitude of reasons. First and foremost, is the fact that the PC version of The Sims 4 is a different version to the PC and it's not simply a matter of sharing these between platforms. Trust me, I would love it if that was the case but as in 95% of games cases, you have to by the PC version again as they do not transfer.

In terms of what you are asking for. The Sims 4's assets are not exclusive to a platform. Whatever new items PC gets, console players will also get. Console players, just like PC players now have Maker Packs on the in game Marketplace where you can purchase new content. Mods and CC on PC are used by player choice and technically speaking, while The Sims 4 does allow mods and CC in the game. Maxis and EA don’t pre-screen, endorse, or support specific Mods or Custom Content.

You can post feedback here on the forums on specific hairstyle ideas.
