I was blessed as a player who didn't have this stupid shopping cart icon ... until I opened my game today. There it was, in all its hideous cash-grabbyness. Immediately closed the game to look for a mod to remove it.
I guess we have our answer: the cart stays. The incidental sales they might get from it is worth upsetting tons more loyal players.

@PandoraTOWas there news released about it? I only saw the upcoming hairs update. Which kind of went against the "EA doesn't give us news during sales" theory. Sigh. ☹️

@LadyAofPineapple, I haven't seen any official news about it, but many people on The Sims Forum have reported that the shopping cart showed up in their games out of the blue yesterday. Theories are that either it came with an EA app update that occurred yesterday or it was already hiding in the previous patch and it just became activated in their games yesterday.
It would be interesting to know if the shopping cart also showed up yesterday for Origin players who didn't have it until that point. I'm using Origin, but I can't say what's happening in my own game one way or the other. I was avoiding the patch until I was forced to update last week by the Origin outage, and I immediately updated my mods as well, one of which disables the shopping cart. So, I don't know whether the cart was in my game last week already.
Personally, I dislike the notion of a "poison pill" having been hidden in the previous patch, to be triggered at a later date. I sincerely hope that isn't how it happened. On the other hand, I don't see how something could be added to the game itself via an EA app update.
They really should tell us in one of their official channels how they managed to insert the cart into people's games without a game update.- Roseadoodle1 year agoSeasoned Traveler
I had the horrible thing show up today (EA app).I will be finding a mod to immediately remove it. I am dyslexic and find it incredibly invasive.
If EA wants me to purchase packs on the day they come out, those packs need to work as advertised and not break my game or ruin my saves.
They need to improve quality control over all packs. Make sure they are compatible with all other packs . If quality and stability become a standard to the product, I am sure sales would go up. Maybe simmers who have left the game, because they no longer find it enjoyable, might even return.
