Giving players an option to not update until it is safe to do so

Just some humble feedback...

I have not yet updated my game, I have left a save open and not closed my game since before the update, so I can continue playing without the update. I have done this because I know that if I close out of the game, I cannot reopen it through the EA app without needing to update the game and risk my save(s) becoming broken. If, for some reason, my power goes out or my actual computer crashes, then I guess I'll just be too nervous to play.

So, just a suggestion - can updates be optional? Of course, by choosing not to update, the player can agree to understand that they will be without certain features.

And then, when it appears that the game-breaking bugs from each update have been solved (or that there were none), we can choose to finally update the game.

I don't know how this could work technically, but I think it would help prevent the avalanche of frustration that occurs after updates when people can't play due to bugs.

  • In the EA app, you can choose to disable automatic updates for all the games, that way you can play offline until the release of emergency bug fixes.

@GiardiniDiMarzoI have that disabled; however, in the past, I have not been able to open the game without first updating.

I think players should be able to delay updating if they choose.

(Also edited to add - I want to be able to stay online to use the gallery)

@gertie47You can play offline as @giardiniDiMarzol mentioned, but I believe you can still view/access the gallery via a browser, instead of via the game. You would probably have to manually move anything you download from your downloads folder to your Sims 4 tray folder, but it should still work. I have yet to test this, but this is a good reason for me to try it as well!

This of course would likely only be a workaround for PC players.

Edited to add the gallery link: https://www.ea.com/en-ca/games/the-sims/the-sims-4/pc/gallery

Edited to add that it looks like it's only possible to favorite items or "add to downloads" for when you ARE playing online again...but I suppose you can still browse for later gameplay at least? Sorry I don't have a better fix for you.

What I want to be able to do is still upload to the gallery - my play style is to spend half the time playing the game, then take a break by spending the other half of the time making sims and uploading them to share.

The only workaround I can see is that I will just have to wait till I feel that it is safe to update and then do a sim uploading session.

My main fear is that my game will break.

I'll be patient, I guess. It's not really a solution, but not uploading to the gallery isn't the end of my world 😃
