Please remove the indoor limit from telescopes

It's literally just extra code no one wants nor needs. No one cares if their game looks ridiculous because sims are stargazing without any sky, because they're the ones who put the thing there. All this ridiculous limit does is stop sims from using them on balconies, which is the place everyone wants to put them, and stop them from using them through windows, which like I said we could do in previous games. Why is there extra code like this that's sole purpose is to annoy players, and yet so much they won't bother to code?

  • My guess is the coding of the random death that happens with the telescopes. It must need clear area to send the meteorite to kill the sim instantly. Having it on a covered balcony or the telescope inside just looking out the windows doesn't allow for the death.

An interesting point it might be for the meteorite! Well, I guess the code could instead allow telescopes inside but prohibit the meteorite from happening when they're inside?

The whole point for the new smaller telescopes was the new death type it introduced. The only way to prevent that death is to heed the warning and make the sim run inside.

  • Ugh I didn't know the two came hand in hand, I thought the point of them was to stop players complaining that the only telescope was that giant thing 😂 but still, in TS3 entire schools could be wiped out with meteors and everyone was inside then.

The base game small telescope was introduced in a patch before the Werewolves dlc pack. If you have that pack you get a second small telescope. I just remember them saying at the time that a potential new death was tied to that object.

  • I would like to be able to place and use telescopes under a roof. I know we could do this in sims 2. Especially for apartments it would be nice to be able to use them indoors or on a covered balcony.

How about disabling the death chance in those cases. Allow players to choose risky open air telescopes or sheltered safe telescopes.

The coding is relying on the telescopes being outside, which is why it is that way. You can always use the move objects cheat to put it anywhere. I know it is still usable on a patio balcony that way. I doubt it is usable inside, but it can be used as a decorative object with the cheat.
