Hear me out: Mixed use lots.

Off the back of the For rent expansion pack, I've been building loads of different styles of flats (apartments) and have been building mostly European style ones which sometimes can have commercial buildings on the ground floor (Because who wants passersby looking in)

Wouldn't it be great gameplay if we could have mixed use lots? Like you could build a block, with a coffee shop, bar, florist, bakery, fashion studio, or some kind of food hall or something on the first floor  and have your sims living in little flats upstairs. They could pick up a coffee and/or meet neighbours at the cafe before work, or might even own one of the businesses in the unit below. You could event keep the same leasing system for the commercial spaces for a bit of added gameplay.

At the moment, I basically keep building residential gyms... and did put a waffle stand on the street, but would love to have a functional shop!

  • @Slothina That sounds like a lot of fun! 🙌 You have my 'Me Too' and 'XP' on this idea!

If the details (code/function in the game) would be a bit much to run a business and rental on the same lot, I would love if we could at least have a mixed lot combo with a residential floor(s) above it. I've done this in a 'workaround' way for a retail store, but even that would work out so much better if it wasn't a workaround but just a regular function the game allows. My hopes would be that my owner Sim household of a retail, restaurant, etc.  any business  would be allowed to reside above the business/on the same lot if they want. Also, if they did make it so you could combine rental area(s) above an owned business, I would love if they tacked on the ability to have a regular residence above the business also.

  • This is something I've wanted to see for a long time and I've also found workarounds so that my Sims can live next to their shops or in a little shop flat/trailer. It's easier with a solo Sim that doesn't have a separate day job, I use Register with the Ministry of Labour to make them a retailer. The biggest issue is returning to the lot from somewhere else as it automatically sends them home, so say if they have kids at school. All of that has to be done manually and it takes much longer to set off to work and school from the Retail lots too for some reason for me (I'm on console so no mods/gameplay cheats allowed).

But I'd love to be able to have dual lot options. I'd like to have a spa with a separate residence/residential rental or vacation rental for example too.
