Idea for a UK Seaside Pack!!

Hi everyone, this is my first post on the forum, but I've had this idea for ages, I think it would make a really fun expansion pack - or at least a lot of ideas for one! In the UK we love our beach holidays, but like mine the best we could afford for years was to go to places like Cornwall - if you haven't heard of it, just give it a quick google, it's MAGICAL! Think cobblestone paths, quaint cottages with peeling plaster from the salt of the sea and yellow-lichen rooftops, the sound of the sea everywhere you go, seagulls, pasties, fish and chips on soft white sand beaches or pebbly beaches or shell beaches, windy clifftop walks with long grass and cows or sheep in every field, warm country pubs - and so much inspiration for beautiful art everywhere!

This is going to be a hefty post but please bear with me as I have put a lot of thought into this!

I have ideas for each aspect of the game that will support the base game and other packs - and also encourage new gameplay that includes children, pets, toddlers etc!

THE WORLD                                 (acts as both home world and/or holiday destination)

  • Beach area: includes a couple of beaches (one large one and one smaller private one accessible by the more pricey houses), main beach will be classic white sand, surrounded by sand dunes and marshes, a food/drink stall selling ice creams, fries, hot drinks, crab sandwiches etc., old-fashioned parasols on the beach and beach towels, can swim, surf etc.
  • 3-4 beach home lots, 2 will have access to the smaller private beach, accessible by a rocky clifftop clamber down
  • A surf shop/school (inspired by Sennen) - can rent or buy wetsuits (so sims can stay in the water longer without getting too cold), skimboards/paddleboards/surfboards (unavailable to buy straight from Build and Buy), bucket and spade, bat and ball, beach umbrellas, suncream (to avoid sims getting burned)
  • A beach cafe/bar - selling classic steak pasties, veg pasties, cheese and onion pasties, cream tea (served either the *right* way or the *wrong* way (google it) - sims may receive a comment from another cafe patron if served the *wrong* way), cafe has a resident dog named Sadie (named after a real cafe dog!), classic gingham tablecloths, quaint wooden styles, seascape art on walls, vase with a single wildflower on each table, station with sauces, plant pots holding cutlery, napkins etc.,

  • Harbour/town area: similar to Penzance harbour, small boats in water, can jump off harbour (sims might be too scared, similar to diving board), can go crabbing, fishing, can search rockpools also, forage
  • Lots include an old-fashioned lido (again similar to Penzance) where less brave sims can go swimming, sunbathe, take photos, can relax in the bathing pool etc.
  • Gallery/pottery studio - new skill of pottery (/driftwood crafting using the BG Handiness table), can buy handmade pottery, also new clothing/t-shirt options not available in CAS, sims can sell here if purchased as a retail store (with Get to Work pack) or can register to send art to be sold there (similar to publishing books through mailbox), also sells postcards
  • Harbourside cocktail bar and deli - can get new Cornish cocktails, cafe items, food items, lobster-pot lights, monstera plants (inspired by 45 Queen St.), industrial coastal vibes, the deli sells Yarg cheese, ales, crackers, fudge, clotted cream and scones etc.
  • Classic Cornish homes/holiday homes, cosy, wooden beams, nautical decor, cute names for houses e.g. saltspray cottage or fisherman's rest etc., small and quaint, one with a pottery studio shed, one with a little balcony with a view of the harbour
  • Option for sealife boat tours for sims (not sure how this would work gameplay-wise but a cute idea) - could see seals, puffins, cave tours etc., sims wear life jackets etc.
  • Countryside area: clifftops, lichen-covered rocks, fields of Cornish wildflower and heather, corn-maise fields, maybe a ding-dong mine or two, fields with hay bails, walking stiles, kissing gates etc.
  • A countryside pub, classic British wooden and stone, tavern, 'no muddy shoes' sign (this is meant to replicate England after all), fireplaces and sofas, BG game tables, beer garden with grass and fairylights, umbrellas and picnic tables - serves classics like beer-battered fish and chips, fish pie, mussels, cheesy chips, burgers, halloumi burger, ham egg and chips, scampi and fries, calamari, stargazer pie, Cornish ales etc., every Tuesday it holds a pub quiz for sims to win a golden surfer-gnome or a golden pasty prize, every Saturday a band plays, drinks are half price as sometimes the band is awful
  • More houses, one with a farm with llamas and cows (Cottage Living EP), one a refurbished ding-dong tin mine, one a more modern eco-house with solar panels, wind turbine etc.
  • An eco-friendly/pro-foraging shop selling handmade soaps that give sims different moodlets and boosts, Cornish wildflower seeds, foraging skill book, natural fertilisers, artisanal clothes etc.
  • Campsite with caravan, space to place tents (Get Outdoors pack), barbecue spots
  • Gardens - combination of the Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project - sculpture park and magical woodland for sims to wonder around take selfies, butterfly room with tropical plants and pond with koi fish, go on a trail for kids by taking photos of items in the checklist, etc., receive a randomised plushie
    • Plushies: mermaid, merman, seal, pasty, seagull, puffin, kayak, life ring, crab, mussel, jellyfish, pirate ship, sandcastle, scone (the right way around), pilchard/mackerel etc.
    • Photo checklist: things like take a selfie with the hidden gnome grassman, mermaid by the water, on the rickety bridge, in the maise maze, find the emperor butterfly etc.

What a great idea for a UK seaside pack. As a Geordie, my maternal family is from the North East coast and it was one of my favourite places to go as a child with the fairground (or the Shows as we call it) fish and chips and a proper ice cream parlour where my mother had her school holiday job ❤️.

The most beautiful beach for me is a little further up the coast in Bamburgh and I'm looking forward to the new Medieval Kit arriving in a few months to redevelop the Crumbling Isle in Windenburg in that style. It's less commercial but unspoiled and absolutely beautiful.

I haven't been to Cornwall but it does look beautiful on Beyond Paradise which is set in Devon but filmed in Cornwall. I also love Whitby which is an interesting one because of the Dracula connection. I love it there but it always had that mysterious and eery feeling as a child with a vampire phobia! Somewhere like our incredible Jurassic Coastline would have interesting implications for pack content too because I love fossil collecting with my Sims.

Some of these features you suggest are similar to Island Living items so it can be done, just differently with a new theme and a little less sunshine (though we're in a heatwave right now 🥵). I'd love surfing, in Sims 2 we had a surfing machine that was fun.

The only world we have that could kind of be used with a suitable climate and appearance in the meantime is Brindleton Bay from Cat's and Dogs but I had an attempt there and the stray pets spoiled it sadly.

Your idea of foraging for wild garlic made me smile! That's a few childhood Sundays spent foraging for wild garlic, blackberries and elderberries. I used to complain every time because wild garlic doesn't really take much finding as the smell leads you straight to it. I preferred the seaside trips!

Cottage Living is based on our UK countryside where I am now but I'd love to see our seaside represented too. Ooh, seaside illuminations would be cool too.

  • @dfaf6b5b17683270 ;Your well thought out plan for this world sounds excellent! Love the idea and all the accessories ideas as well. Pottery would be fun to have as well as surfing. Heather covered fields do look magical. I hope EA has a good look at your plan. ♥

  • They are all great ideas! 🙂 The world, the features, activities and items all sound great!

  • @dfaf6b5b17683270I love how much thought you've put into this, and I would also love to see a pack like this. It has my vote (and Me Too)! Along these lines, I could also see a pack that takes inspiration from Ireland's coast, maybe the Dingle Peninsula, and incorporating aspects of Gaelic culture (which could provide a perfect opportunity to finally give us faeries, add tons of depth with new lore, as an homage to a rich tradition of storytelling, and maybe even add a touch of Neolithic heritage to the Simsverse).

@simsplayer818I would also be here for a pack with a Jurassic Coast flavor. I already enjoy Henford so much because it gives me Cotswolds AONB vibes (and that along with the Mendip Hills are my favorite part of the UK irl), so I'd welcome an expansion that delved into some other regions. There's so much to work with!

  • totally a yes to this idea

for the pottery part: it's in the game since recently so mission accomplished on this one

i love your ideas with what you have in mind and i can never ever get tired of a beach world😍😍

    i can't say no to an England/UK based world😊😊

  • This is a great idea!

I feel like a tropical beach world would be more exciting. A new tropical world that gives us houseboats and a mermaid refresh. It doesn't have to be African inspired but a Caribbean island world is not in our game yet.

The Caribbean islands give us exotic landscapes, food and new water sports along the with Best Radio Station! and should be compatible with Sulani.

I like European worlds but UK is too similar to some of the Eropean worlds in the game and I'm not a fan of South Africa representing Africans in the sims 4.
