Move Weather Preferences from Social Menu to "Sim Options" for Better Usability
Right now, to set a Sim's weather or temperature preference, you have to click on another Sim and navigate through the social menu to find the "Declare Preference" interaction . This design has always felt backwards to me.
The Problem: Why Is a Personal Preference Hidden in Social Interactions?
Here's the core issue: a Sim's weather preference is a personal trait, not a relationship action. But the game treats it like a conversation topic.
This creates several annoyances:
- You need a second Sim present. If I'm setting up a single Sim household, or if I just want to configure a Sim's preferences before they interact with anyone, I can't. The interaction requires a target.
- It's buried. The social menu is already cluttered. Finding the specific sub-menu for weather preferences takes multiple clicks, and it's not where any player would intuitively look when they think "I want to change my Sim's settings."
- The active Sim is right there. I have selected the Sim I want to edit. Clicking on them should reveal a menu of options about them. That's how the UI works for so many other things. Why not this?
The Solution: Move It to "Sim Options"
When you click on the actively selected Sim, you get a radial menu with options specific to that Sim (e.g., "Change Outfit," "Simology," etc.). I propose adding it to the new category called "Sim Options…" where we can directly set:
- Favorite Weather (Sun, Rain, Snow, Wind)
- Disliked Weather (Sun, Rain, Snow, Wind)
- Temperature Preference (Hot, Cold)
This would function as a direct settings panel for the Sim's hidden weather traits, without requiring any social interaction . It would be instant, accessible from the active Sim's own pie menu, and would finally put personal preferences where they belong: on the person themselves.
Why This Matters
- Solo play and setup: I can configure a new Sim's preferences the moment I start playing them, without needing to invite a neighbor over first.
- Clarity: New players will actually find this feature. Right now, many players don't even know weather preferences exist because they're hidden behind a social interaction that has no obvious connection to "settings."
- Consistency: The game already has precedent for clicking the active Sim to access non-social options. This fits that pattern perfectly.
A Note on Mods
I know mods exist that make these preferences visible in CAS as likes/dislikes . While those are great, this shouldn't require a mod. The vanilla game already has the preference system; it's just locked behind an unintuitive interaction. Moving the access point is a small UI change that would have a big impact on usability.
