No more live events!

Nobody asked for this. Seriously. I'm sure the executives at EA love live events because they pump up login numbers, but they're terrible for the players:

  • Inciting FOMO- being limited-time events with no other official way to unlock the content, players that can't/won't use mods miss out if they're not playing during the time an event is live.
  • Forcing a specific playstyle- The appeal of The Sims has always been that it's your sandbox to do what you want in, but unless a player completely avoids opening the game in online mode, these events intrude upon gameplay without an opt-out. That was probably the thing that annoyed me most about Reaper's Rewards, having the event pop up in saves I didn't intend to play through it in.
  • Forcing online play- The Sims 4 is a single-player game, therefore playing online should never be mandatory, let alone a requirement to get and keep content.
  • Bugs, bugs, bugs- The Happy at Home content had to be handed out to everyone because so many people had trouble getting it in the intended manner; Answers HQ and social media were flooded for the duration of the event with reports of problems playing Reaper's Rewards and getting its loot. I don't trust that Cozy Celebrations is going to be any better in that regard.
  • Seriously, bugs- The dev time and energy that's going into pushing this mobile-game-esque nonsense would be much better spent fixing major issues with the game, as the playerbase has been clamoring for for years and as EA has promised they were going to devote more time to. When I saw there was a patch today, I was hoping it would include some of those fixes. At the very least, it's unacceptable that trans bodies are still broken several months and several patches after that bug was introduced, despite EA/Maxis's lip service to depicting diverse Sims and a modder showing how easy it was to fix within a week of the patch.

Please, EA. Save this nonsense for multiplayer games and/or Project Rene (since it doesn't sound like it's going to be a traditional Sims game anyway.) Sims 4 doesn't need it and the players don't want it.

As for me, I may just keep my game totally offline until after the event so it doesn't interrupt my gameplay. Until the next FOMO-fest comes around, anyway...

  • Something I posted on the Answer HQ forums:

As of recent, Events have shown up in the Sims 4. Back around 2016(17?) there were events. There have been problems about Simmers missing the events or not wanting to participate in the events. I've fairly enjoyed the ones I have been able to play and for the longest time I've actually wanted to be able to replay some of the original ones. I also missed some of them, like the Sugar Skull collecting. I found it cool when I could sort of recreate the Bunny Egg Hunt in the game using Seasons' calendar, but as for the others?

So, here is an idea: make an "Events" category like how there is a "Scenarios" category. That will make the events optional and not a limited time deal. I'd like to be able to unlock the rewards from the old events though gameplay rather than use a cheat. It would be pretty cool to be able to actually interact with Jasmine Holiday again, too.

Before I start playing a new save I spend weeks replacing ALL of the lots in game with gallery lots. It makes an unbelievable difference. I assure you, we are not all playing the same. The same game yes but playing the worlds as they come is boring to me. My lots are about 70% community lots, my sims always have some where to go.

I'm telling you this because, if you've never done this you should try it. It's a game changer.

I have done this and all my saves have the lots from my library that I need. My library is my final save. I can recreate any storyline by choosing lots from my library and dropping them into the worlds. My favorite households are saved in my library as well. I try not to re-download them into new saves because I prefer the households to keep friends and family connections. I play the same save with new lots and fresh worlds in order to have multiple saves and still keep my households and friendships undisturbed (connected). 🙂

I am waiting for major fixes in For Rent and City Living before I can fully play my game. Dine Out works but it's not fixed.

I always say that free stuff is free. Incidentally I completed Cozy Celebrations in less than a day, and I had to train a guy to Mixology 2..

But this is the first Event that hasn't had a hideous bug; first one didn't even recognise we'd gathered things, the Grim one completely stalled out on not working out that I'd picked flowers, which is a pretty weak thing to miss.

I mean, most of the holiday jobs... it wasn't asking me to do anything I wouldn't do already. Cooking a specific meal, a brief moment at the computer, some dancing... is that really so immersion-breaking?

Unfortunately "For Rent" broke my long term save. I learned a few things from that mistake. I've been afraid to use residential rentals ever since.
