No more live events!

Nobody asked for this. Seriously. I'm sure the executives at EA love live events because they pump up login numbers, but they're terrible for the players:

  • Inciting FOMO- being limited-time events with no other official way to unlock the content, players that can't/won't use mods miss out if they're not playing during the time an event is live.
  • Forcing a specific playstyle- The appeal of The Sims has always been that it's your sandbox to do what you want in, but unless a player completely avoids opening the game in online mode, these events intrude upon gameplay without an opt-out. That was probably the thing that annoyed me most about Reaper's Rewards, having the event pop up in saves I didn't intend to play through it in.
  • Forcing online play- The Sims 4 is a single-player game, therefore playing online should never be mandatory, let alone a requirement to get and keep content.
  • Bugs, bugs, bugs- The Happy at Home content had to be handed out to everyone because so many people had trouble getting it in the intended manner; Answers HQ and social media were flooded for the duration of the event with reports of problems playing Reaper's Rewards and getting its loot. I don't trust that Cozy Celebrations is going to be any better in that regard.
  • Seriously, bugs- The dev time and energy that's going into pushing this mobile-game-esque nonsense would be much better spent fixing major issues with the game, as the playerbase has been clamoring for for years and as EA has promised they were going to devote more time to. When I saw there was a patch today, I was hoping it would include some of those fixes. At the very least, it's unacceptable that trans bodies are still broken several months and several patches after that bug was introduced, despite EA/Maxis's lip service to depicting diverse Sims and a modder showing how easy it was to fix within a week of the patch.

Please, EA. Save this nonsense for multiplayer games and/or Project Rene (since it doesn't sound like it's going to be a traditional Sims game anyway.) Sims 4 doesn't need it and the players don't want it.

As for me, I may just keep my game totally offline until after the event so it doesn't interrupt my gameplay. Until the next FOMO-fest comes around, anyway...

I never ook part in any of those events, but they never really bothered me. I mostly play offline, and there is absolutely zero event stuff. My game is packed, my day is not long enough, I really could not spend time on any event at all. They will never stop me from playing, though :)

Once again, with this new in-your-face event, I'm keeping the game in offline mode if I need to work on anything else in TS4. I have better things to do in The Sims 4 besides doing chores that are not the reason why I got into The Sims 4 in the first place, and I'm probably not alone in saying that. I'm so glad I haven't bought a single DLC, otherwise I would have been regretting myself so much if I did, knowing that I couldn't even enjoy it without the event getting in the way.

I agree. I dislike FOMO events, and these reward events don't even have the grace to be fun. They're boring. They don't generate quality time spent on TS4. They don't even add interesting lore to learn. They're just annoying chores that deviate us from what we actually want to do on the game.

  • Personally, I enjoy limited-time events, but I'm dissatisfied with the current environment that forces participation on those who don't want to join. Some players can't obtain event rewards due to bugs. I wish for a fair system where only those who want to participate can log in, and the rewards are distributed to everyone afterward.

I enjoy the live events, but they would be greatly improved by making it possible to hide the event interface/icon. I don’t always want it there, and it’s pointless once I’m done with that week’s quests. It also annoys me when events are extended past when they were originally planned to end and I am stuck with the icon for longer than expected. Please just let me hide the icon.

  • I actually like live events. But there's the thing that it matches with my playstyle. Like the last one Forever Friends event matched too perfectly with one of my child Sims and gave him a sweet sweet side story just before his birthday, that I wouldn't have done if it weren't for the live event. But that's just me though. Not speaking for everyone.

57 likes.  2k+ views.  Over a year of people complaining, and not a whisper of response from EA.  I, someone who had obediently bought EVERY pack since launch and been a good little cash cow, completely uninstalled Sims 4 over a year ago when this started, and I keep checking back to see if they've made this optional.  Only then will I even consider coming back - though the longer this goes on, the less faith I have that EA has pleasing their players in mind at all anymore.

And no, it isn't just me.

The vast majority of those have not even bothered to post on the forums, but have just quietly stopped playing Sims 4 since those unavoidable annoying popups have started trying to control the story we're telling with our game.  I'm just the one who keeps checking back to see if EA has come to their senses.

The only argument people have is "I like the live events!"   I for one am not trying to take them away from people who like them.  But MANY found it broke the game for them.

There is absolutely no reason these events should not be able to be disabled.  There is absolutely no reason why the devs will not explain to us why the cannot be optional.  It's shady and gross.  A year I've been waiting, just to get back the Sims as a life sim game and not as some weird FOMO loot-grubbing nonsense.  I miss my sims and the stories I used to tell with them, but not enough to endure that tacky, flashy, mobile-game style GET THIS NOW!!! nonsense every few weeks.  I am an adult and don't need to be constantly prodded and "yelled" at to GET MORE STUFF!!!

Let the people who WANT it do it.  Let those who don't, NOT do it.  CHOICE is all we're asking for.  And have been for a year.  And no, disabling the gallery along with it is not a "solution."  That's like saying you can put out the fire in your kitchen by flooding your house.

Gonna be putting this here and I'm sure most simmers know this by now, but another Reward Event will be starting on December 16, the so called 'Deck the Palms' Event, so obviously they're still going with these in-your-face events that can't be turned off (without going into offline mode). I literally have no faith in EA or The Sims Team anymore, regardless of what they say.

Also, as of today, December 11, 2025, I will be starting my true last Sims 4 project and going to December 14 the latest, hoping to finish strong and avoid having another event shoved in my face 24/7, because I'm no longer interested in having to deal with these 'chore charts' anymore. Though, I will say that playing The Sims 4 wasn't all for nothing, as I did use it for a good purpose, and I took around 180,000 screenshots (yes, I really did take this many screenshots), which will be preserved/archived. But once my last project is done, it will be The Sims 2, The Sims 3, and MySims from now on.

But like other people said, there's absolutely no reason why the events should not have an option to turn them off, and the excuse for not giving an option to turn them off is very weak, and no other life simulator game I know forces these FOMO events on players, maybe with the exception of mobile games, but I personally wouldn't count these. Personally, because of these events, I can't even call The Sims 4 a life simulator anymore, and now I look at it as a chore simulator. Even though I don't plan on getting any of the new life simulation games, I bet inZoi and Paralives are smart enough not to put FOMO events in their games, as it would have the same problem as The Sims 4.
