Request for Name Order Customization in The Sims 4
When playing The Sims 4 in certain Asian languages, such as Korean, the name order of Sims is displayed as [Last Name] [First Name], which differs from the English version where it's [First Name] [Last Name]. As a Korean player, I understand why this change was made—since in our culture, the family name comes first, followed by the given name.
However, the majority of playable characters, including pre-made neighbors, are Western. Most of the neighborhoods are based on Western society, so using the [First Name] [Last Name] order feels more natural in this context. It’s a bit jarring to see Western names displayed in reverse, especially since in Korea, we usually maintain the original name order for foreign names. In fact, when we introduce ourselves to English speakers, we even reverse our own name order to match the global standard of [First Name] [Last Name].
There are mods available that modify the game’s string tables to change the name order, but they come with issues. For example, with NPCs like the Grim Reaper (who doesn't have a name actually), the mod changes the placeholder [0.simname] to [0.simfirstname] [0.simlastname], resulting in names like "Grim Reaper Grim Reaper," which is obviously awkward.
I’ve tried finding the solution to change some scripts to adjust the name order for the Korean language, but I haven’t been successful.
Could you please consider adding a separate option in the game’s settings that allows players to choose their preferred name order? This would improve the experience for those of us who play in languages with different name conventions but still prefer the [First Name] [Last Name] order for Western characters.
