Soul's Journey Over too Quickly

Does anyone else have the issue that the Soul's Journey always ends too quickly, thus erasing their bucket list?

It seems to be connected to a few different things:

Finishing any small portion of any aspiration, hindering us from fulfilling aspirations as we always have.
Gaining skill-levels (maybe just hitting level 5?), which are gained too quickly and too easily anyhow.
Finishing things on your bucket-list, which I almost never have time to do.
Getting promoted at work - or is it just taking a new job? Promotions are harder now, or at least have been for me this time, which is good.

I am not even fulfilling aspirations like I used to, but the Soul's Journey keeps kicking up and kicking up. When it's done, your bucket list just disappears, making the bucket list basically useless. I'm sorry, but that's the truth. The bucket list contains things that you have to have level 10 handiness or level 10 mixology, or level 10 robotics.... Other than getting married or having a child. My gal wants neither. She does not want a family. Sometimes, you get something easier like woohoo with a werewolf or vampire....

I have already pointed this out in the past, right after the Life and Death pack were released. Sadly, EA does not appear to have done anything to fix this. Everything else about the Life and Death pack is so cool!!! The bucket list and Soul's Journey, however, give false hope. You hope your sim will get to do the things on their bucket list. The progression of the Soul's Journey being tied to too many things that make it progress too quickly make it difficult to actual do bucket list items. My sims end-up finishing the Soul's Journey half-way through their young adult years (on long life-span). I play the game to do a lot of things with my sims.

I hope EA will re-visit and re-design the Soul's Journey. All it would take is to make each progression equal 1/5th of a portion, instead of 1/2 or sometimes 1/3 of a portion. Or, make adjustments based on the life-spans. For a long life-span, it should take a lot longer to finish the Soul's Journey than it does for a short life-span.

  • I absolutely agree with you, I like the idea of the bucket list, but the way it is designed is not motivating at all.

Additionally to what you mentioned fulfilling wants and having successful holidays also increases the soul's journey level.

So basically your Sim could finish their soul's journey by using the toilet if they happen to have a pee want...

I just restarted after quitting and losing some progress. Apparently, gaining skills does not increase the Soul's Journey, but as you've said, other things definitely do. I keep the wants turned off, but the bleed-through of them, especially at festivals in the Ravenloft world, show me that they are still running in the background. Maybe that is part of what is making the Soul's Journey less fun than it could be.

It definitely goes by too quickly, but I really like the idea of a bucket list. Maybe EA could at least make the bucket list not disappear with the conclusion of the Soul's Journey. Not tie it to wants. Adjust it for the life-span. Your LIFE Journey is not over when the Soul's Journey ends. 😉

Regarding the life span: I always play on short lifespan and even there it's way too easy...
