I've been using OneDrive with Windows 11 for a year with no problems. The idea of turning off a huge part of the Windows OS (and a useful one at that!) seemed silly to me.
What I did was right click on my EA folder inside the Documents folder and use the command "always keep on this device" to keep a local copy of the EA folder so it's not trying to run anything from OneDrive when the game is playing (at least that how I understand it to be working).
When I exit the game, OneDrive then does it's little synching thing and all the files in the EA folder get the green check mark and I can see in the status bar (lower right) when OneDrive is done synching and then shut down my computer. This seems to be working okay. I haven't lost anything yet. 🤞
You can set OneDrive to not read specific folders in your documents folder. I used to do that. I now only use Onedrive to backup files on my laptop every 6 months. The EA folder was not the only folder that made using Onedrive more of a headache than a helpful tool. Personally, we purchased an external hard drive to back up important folders instead.
