Suggestion CAS: Music Sample, Likes/Dislikes

A convenient and helpful suggestion for CAS Likes/Dislikes system is to provide a sound snippet for the Music Likes/Dislikes category. This would be especially helpful for brand-new players who are entering the game for the first time and don’t yet know the radio station's music catalog. Heck, even some of us seasoned players would benefit from this.

Music tastes vary, can add to a Sim’s personality, and the music catalog will continue to expand with future DLC. Sometimes new players may not know the difference between Baroque vs Classical, Latin Pop vs Latin, or that Retro music is actually the theme music to previous Sims games, until they are in Live Mode to listen to the actual Stereo.

When building a brand new Sim and deciding their Music Likes/Dislikes, players may ask, What is NuDisco? Would my new Sim like it? What does it sound like? The only way to truly learn about NuDisco is to enter the game, go to Live Mode AFTER the Sim is created, find the NuDisco radio station, THEN return BACK into CAS to choose whether their Sim Likes/Dislikes NuDisco music.

I’d like to suggest a solution: When a player selects Like or Dislike on the Music genre, a quick little sample tune plays for the same length of time as the Trait animation. Thank you!

  • @Vyo4 Highly agree. I usually pause the game and search for the musics options and start listening to 1 or 2 songs which is helpful but breaks immersion and isn't something good to the game.
  • That is a very great suggestion! It would be very helpful to all simmers, as it can be hard at times to know what type of music a particular music option is.

  • @Vyo4 you can do something like this while you're in CAS by going into Game Options>Music and playing samples that way.

I had no idea what some of the music genres were to be honest. But I've found I really love Focus and Japanese Folk. My Sims often have one of those on in the background. They're very relaxing.

@simsplayer818, nice tip. Consider, however, that most players (especially new) wouldn't know to sidetrack and take the extra steps into Game Options for Music samples. Maybe a helpful compromise is to create a tooltip hover on the Music Likes/Dislikes section that directs players to Game Options. There is already a tooltip for Likes/Dislikes, could just slide another one beside it for the Music section. Personally, I would prefer to simply play a short sampling of the Music genre when selecting Like/Dislike = Less steps, more player convenience.

  • @Vyo4 yeah with new players in mind maybe they could also add the suggestion to the in game guidance system/tutorials too 🤔. Emily could direct new players to where to play music samples when setting likes/dislikes. She could ask a player if they'd like to hear samples before choosing if she doesn't already offer advice on that. I immediately switched her off when she was added lol.

I found the perfect example yesterday of music I don't think I've ever sampled and that was Cottagecore. I always think of myself as a font of musical knowledge as I like most genres (except Jazz and banjos lol) and I found I really loved Cottagecore much to my amazement! Now my Sim has it on all the time...I just wish I could stop them randomly stopping what they are doing to sing and dance to it!

My sims enjoy dancing to the music when they hear it being played also @simsplayer818 🙂 It happens with all the different ages of sims.
