Suggestion: Easier Management of CC on Different Drives

Dear Sims 4 Team,

I am writing to request a feature that would make it easier to store and recognize custom content (CC) on different drives, specifically the D drive.

Currently, I am facing challenges with managing my custom content due to the limited size of my C drive. Despite my efforts to increase the partition size, I was unable to do so because my C and D drives are on different disks. This has made it difficult to run The Sims 4 with all my mods and custom content.

I also attempted to create a symbolic link from the C drive to the D drive to manage my custom content. However, this resulted in an “unable to start” error, indicating that the game was already running. This workaround did not resolve the issue and added to my frustration.

Given that my C drive is significantly smaller than my D drive, it would be incredibly helpful if the game could natively support storing and recognizing custom content on different drives. This feature would be especially beneficial if The Sims 4 plans to be around for years to come, as it would greatly enhance the user experience for players like myself who have larger secondary drives.

For reference, I am using a Windows 11 PC.

Thank you for considering my request.

  • @SnaveXs  Would you like help resolving the error when you moved your Mods folder?  If so, please let me know what format your D drive has, and also the exact command you used to create the symlink.

If you only want this to be a suggestion, I'll move it to Feedback.

I figured out how to do the symbolic link correctly, and my mods are now working from the D drive.

However, I would still like to suggest in feedback that the game be able to run completely from the D drive if possible. I noticed that the game is a little slower loading, but probably because it's the first time loading mods from the D drive location.

@SnaveXs  It's probably more about the speed of the D drive relative to C, or the speed of the connection.  There are plenty of free speed tests available if you want to check.

    Anyway, moved to Feedback.
