Have you set your neighborhood stories off from the game settings as well as from the household tabs?
July update seems to have put those ON for everyone if you don't set it again
leading to sims moving out deaths and all the works as you play :I
I don't know how many times you saved but you can recover saves with this if its just one or two saves past
