Appliances

I noticed a rice cooker in the For Rent trailer, which I'm excited for, but I'm getting overwhelmed with appliances and trying to store them.

I did some testing and counting, by my count(I do not have every pack), we have 12 types of appliances that require counters. They are: *Microwave, Coffee Pot, Espresso Bean Grinder, Espresso Maker, *Popcorn Maker, *Ice Cream Maker, *Drink Fountain, *Gravy Fountain, Tea Maker, *Waffle Maker, *Pizza Oven and *Stand Mixer

These items are not directly able to be dragged into storage items, but the ones with asterisks* next to them can be dragged into a sim's inventory. The others will need to be moved by opening Build Mode. It would be nice to be able to store all of the appliances easier.

  • @SadSimsShane Adding my 'Me Too' on this! I've never stored appliances anywhere but Household Inventory. To me it seems weird that you can drag it into some of those into Personal Inventory (or tell the Sim to do it), since you cannot use them directly from personal inventory (directing them to use them from their inventory or having them do so autonomously - like with the vacuum). So... it seems that if players are able to drag some of them to the personal inventory of their Sims, why not all small appliances? Or why not none of them, unless they are items they can autonomously use or be directed to use (such as a laptop, vacuum, bike, etc.)?

However, that all in mind, I put a storage chest on the floor and tried to drag appliances into it. Nope, that doesn't work. Perhaps adding something like a change in storage containers so these items can be added (like food and the refrigerator) for access to drag out stored items to the counter without entering build mode (for players like you that want that realism aspect of storing appliances and kitchen items like you would in a cupboard, and being to drag them out to the counter without entering build mode?

...Now that we're going down that thought path, wouldn't it be great if all cupboards, countertops, and islands could be used as storage for kitchen items that you're not currently using so you had the ability to open them in live mode and drag out appliances to the counter... like the functionality of the refrigerator? Or even a wish item further... if you could click an open counter via an active Sim and view the stored appliances that could be used on that countertop, then direct the Sim to fetch and use the appliance on this open countertop? 🤔 Hmmm....

Anyway, I think you have some nice points here, and it would be nice to see this issue pursued with some of these things in mind. 🙌

  • @SadSimsShane I agree it's a lot. I don't have every appliance for each of my sims (I rarely use a microwave IRL lol), but for the few I do use, I wish they could share counter space. For example, two slots on counters instead of locking them to the middle.

@SheriGR The GT ones that cant be dragged into the inventory are the GT cafe coffee stuff, which can only be placed on the specifc item in get together - this makes sense . The basegame coffee and tea pot doesnt make sense though

@gooochyeee Yes, there is the "Impress-O Expresso Machine" that can only be placed on the countertop that's made for it (see below - the "Easy Energy Espresso Bar"), which comes with Get Together...

However, the "Espresso Engine" and the "Espresso Grind-O-Matic" that also come with Get Together can also be placed on normal counters (see above). So, given the context, I assume that the "Espresso Engine" and the "Espresso Grind-O-Matic" are what @SadSimsShane is referring to using in her Sim's home.

  • I agree with all of this too. I've just started using the move objects cheat (after learning that it doesn't affect my console achievements like most cheats) and I've tried putting a few other decorative kitchen clutter items around the gadgets to save space in each section if my Sim has a lot of appliances. But you have to be really careful not to block access to the gadget itself. Those little scales can fit anywhere, knives, spice racks, etc.

It also frustrates me that some items have to go on a kitchen island instead of a counter, like some scales and some Cool Kitchen items. That doesn't make sense to me.

But my biggest pet hate is that the DHD built in ovens can't be placed under the hobs. That makes no sense at all because IRL that's exactly where they do go. A built in oven goes directly under a hob whether gas or electric. I have an electric ceramic hob with an oven fitted underneath it. I do have a counter top combination oven too which is bigger (but that's for my accessibility needs for my weak back lol, don't want to injure self fighting with an oven ready chicken 🍗😩) but everyone I know has the oven under the hob. They look daft being placed in the counters around the hob. Even cooking shows have kitchens set up this way too. It annoys me.

I personally love all the new appliances they give us but I soooo agree with @LadyAofPineapple!! Smaller appliences could totally share the same counter. Ice cream and popcorn machines would fit next to each other no problem, and I'd adore that solution!!

@simsplayer818 I completely agree on the separate stovetop/built in oven things. Every single time I try to use them in a kitchen design I throw in the towel and remove them, as all of the restrictions on how to use them stink for design and creative purposes, and even adding them in ways they would work in real life (real life restrictions) almost always doesn't work out for me. Also, the custom stove part should have a version at countertop level - inserted in a cabinet. It would also be nice if it was possible to insert one beneath that one for a double oven that takes one tile. There are a number of ways that a separated stovetop & oven can be used that are so cool, but I can almost never do so with the ones in game now. So sad. 😢

  • I would agree. I also find it rather frustrating that none of these things can be used on a table.

  • I love the appliances and it would be nice for them to be able to share space on one counter.   Maybe it would be nice to utilize cabinets and we could store them in the cabinets and you could just click open (like you would on the fridge and pull them out maybe?   Nothing else but appliances could be stored in there.
