Building an elevated porch?

Hello there fellow Sim-mers! My question, I see many homes built in the neighborhoods of the game that have a front porch that is elevated so that you need a small set of stairs to get up on the porch and enter the house. I have looked all over the place in build mode and cannot figure out how this was done. I am sure that many of you have done this and would be able to give me some hints. Thanks.

  • This information is for an older version of the game. For the new way of raising the foundation please look at: https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion-Feedback/Building-an-elevated-porch/m-p/8791532#M23869

Of course we can help you!

First of all you need to elevate your foundation, you can do that with this option:

First click the Foundations option, then use the slider to move your house up or down.

Go to the 'Walls and Empty rooms' option:

After that you need to add a deck. You can do that by building a room and deleting or replacing the walls. Of with these options:

When you placed one of these options you'll have sort of a deck, add a little staircase (you might need to turn it a bit) and some railing on the stairs and voilà a little porch is born!

The game has been updated since this thread started. To raise the foundation you now just select a room and grab the double arrow that appears in the middle of it:
