[BY DESIGN] Wall Sculptures and Plants darkened in the Interior

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Place some of the decorative wall sculptures, such as The Living Vase (from GT), Country Flowers (from GT), Decorative Corbel (base game), and Scrollwork Corbel (base game) on a wall outside. Set time of day to afternoon. Note brightness of objects. Create a room and place the same objects inside it. Add lighting (I covered the entire ceiling in the image below).
What happens when the bug occurs? The objects appear darker than they should in the interior, given how brightly lit it is.
What do you expect to see? The objects should not be darker in a well lit interior than they are outdoors.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

Here is an image of the objects brightness on an exterior wall:

Here are the same objects in a brightly lit interior room:

Note that the Crabtree Planter Pot is also pictured (vase with flowers) to show the contrast of an object that does *not* have the glitch.

  • Just in case no one ever responded to this, I have the same issue with most of these Items. The Tiered to Perfection object doesn't look that bad. Everything else listed has pretty apparent lighting issues. This includes the five items on the wall stuck in permanent shadow, and the potted plant stand to the lower left. To show contrast, I left the other wall item and the pots on the right in the picture.

  • @crinrict Thanks for finding that answer. Not a great answer, to be sure, but it is what it is.

Looks like the same issue, except that I would not have expected this behavior for greeting cards, which I imagine were never intended for outdoor display.

It looks so bad, while other wall sculptures lack the same design choice and look fine. I wind up just never using these items in my builds

    Product: The Sims 4

How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.110.311.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All except Journey to Batuu
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Place a Serenity Memorial Wreath both indoors and outdoors.
What happens when the bug occurs? The wreath is properly lit when placed outdoors, but when moved indoors, the wreath is in shadows (even in a well-lit room).
What do you expect to see? Consistent lighting on objects that are made to be put either indoors or outdoors.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

Attached are screenshots showing the lighting both on the wreath outdoors and indoors. The room is well-lit inside, so there shouldn't be a shadow overcast on the wreath.

@MxOddity I merged your post with the main thread for this.

This was deemed as by design by Maxis.

Specific objects, when placed indoors with indoor lighting, are not affected properly by the indoor lighting. I do not have a comprehensive list, but some examples are included in the screenshots. I duplicated the room to show the same set of objects: the room on the left lit properly, in outdoor light, and the room on the right with indoor lighting and the objects in shadow.

You can tell which objects are affected because when you click/select them, they have the proper lighting, which dims when they are placed down. When you hover over the placed object, the shadowed items also do not get the usual perimeter highlight that items get. Most of the items with this bug are in the 'indoor plants' B/B category.

dang, that's frustrating, especially for items labelled specifically for indoor use - thanks for letting me know
