Cannot harvest alien plants on sixam (sims 4)

@lilyinsimland, I checked one of my households that works in the science lab and has a wormhole generator.  He went to Sixam and like you, I could not harvest any plants there! 😞  I could collect rocks, metals, fish, & geodes, but no plants! 🤨  Coincidentally or not, I can no longer get my plants at the science lab to grow either.  I can harvest them if they were ready to be harvested before the garden overhaul (that happened in June) took place, but they will not grow any more! 😮   Even though this is a different problem, I have a suspicion that the 2 problems are related to the garden update. 🤔  So I doubt you are doing anything wrong, unless I'm doing the same thing! 😃  But just to be on the safe side, I have to ask if you play with any Mods or Custom Content (CC)?  I don't, but I still am having the same problems as you are. 😉 Outdated Mods often cause problems with the game.

@lilyinsimland @PugLove888 Sounds very frustrating. Not sure if this is a relevant thought in your Sixam situation, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

I do a ton of sim-gardening, and I have one scientist sim, but have never gone to Sixam yet. With those qualifications in mind, I have noticed that depending on the season, plant maturity, possibly how long I've played in that area of that world, and I'm not sure if other factors come in (have not experimented that thoroughly) -- when I do something like visit Granite falls, some plants (again, depending on the previous factors mentioned, I assume) only have the options you mentioned. So I take a graft. At home I graft this onto another plant and the fruit/veggie/flower grows for me at home. Is it possible you cannot harvest certain plants, and that you can only take a graft then grow from that? (Be careful, you can only take a limited number of grafts before the plant dies.) Being able to take a graft is almost better than harvesting. If it's harvestable, sometimes I do both, so I have options once I get home.

Gotta love those bugs and glitches, though. 🤔 Drives me nuts, sometimes.

I shall try that. I don't think it has to do with the season since I've visited during 3/4 multiple times. Fingers crossed cos I really want to finish that gardening collection >. >

I do use quite a few mods and CCs but recently deleted all the ones that after the latest patch were giving me problems. Still I am experiencing this glitch along with another one that affects the inventory. ☹️ hopefully for the both of us it's going to sort itself out.

Plants in the wild only grow in their designated season and your sim needs to be in their vicinity for some time for them to mature.

Cutting and grafting is usually the best way to go. Luckily the Emotions tree is all seasons.

Tip. To get more than one type of fruit from a domesticated emotion tree. Take cuttings in the wild. It will be random what type of emotion fruit it gives so take some in different places in the jungle and graft those you do not already have on your Emotion tree. I have so far only tried with one so do not know if there can be more than that.

@jpkarlsen, no I know that you have to be in the area for some time before plants can mature to harvest, and I also know plants have to be in season. 😉  However, this was a Sim whose been to Sixam many, many times so the plants are all mature enough. Also, knowing that there are 4 types of Alien plants (3 from Sixam and one you get from traveling in the rocket ship), and that each Alien plant blooms in a different season, so each season should have at least one Alien plant in bloom if you have all 4 of them, I tried multiple plants on Sixam.  Well I must have overlooked the one plant that would have been in bloom in the Summer because it wasn't in any of the areas I checked. 🤒😳  So, I went back and found the right plant and was able to harvest it! :eahigh_file:  But I've played 3 different households in the science career and none of them will grow plants at work, only at home! All the plants are indoors, and even when in season they will not grow or produce! 😮☹️  They used to produce and grow just fine before the update to gardening. 🤨 In one household I've tied every day for 1 and a half Sim-years. 😕

So, @lilyinsimland, that leads me to believe that this isn't the same problem you are having.  So, since you play with Mods/CC, have you removed all of it?  If you haven't , please remove it at least temporarily and then test your game! 😉

@SheriGR, sorry I missed your post about grafting!  😮😇  I've grafted many plants over the years in TS4.  And I also used to be the type of Simmer who would both harvest  plant and then take a cutting for grafting.  😎   But I've had some new problems with some of my grafts since the gardening overhaul.  And I'm not the only one:

I haven't tested gardening at the science lab. Currently I play two archeologists that do not have other jobs. Perhaps I will test it in the weekend if I get the time.

@PugLove888 I also have issues with grafting/splicing to produce the 'hybrid' plants (ie: Dragonfruit + Snapdragon = Cowplant Berry does not ACTUALLY produce a cowplant berry now) since the seasons update, BUT I did graft some cuttings from Granite Falls, and I can confirm, as I just checked back in and harvested from two of them... I grafted muckleberry onto a strawberry plant and successfully harvested strawberries and muckleberries from that plant. I also grafted/spliced chamomile onto a sage plant and  just successfully harvested both sage and chamomile from that plant.

@PugLove888 @lilyinsimland @jpkarlsen Did you try watering the plants/tending the in the lab each time any of your sims are at work in the lab, even if it's not an assigned task? I haven't played my scientist sim for a while, but if you're currently playing one, maybe you could try re-planting the dead one(s) then tending them each time at work? Also, do your sims take cuttings from them? They do die after a certain amount of cuttings. Maybe someday at work you could build an 'earth greenhouse' for them with sprinklers. I have tested and can enter 'build mode' at work. I made a recording of adding the 12x9 'Greenhouse Earth Room' from my gallery. I made a screencast of how to add it. BUT... I did find that it does not allow me to drag the plants from the lab to it. I have a room that has plenty of plants in my gallery, and you can grab them from that - also in screencast. In my home where I use this greenhouse (the earth floor type can allow the addition of sprinklers - if you remove a wall panel while adding the sprinkler, also in screencast) I upgrade the sprinklers so they don't puddle and are unbreakable. Unfortunately I could not do this with the sim in this video since she does not need the handiness level of 5 or up to do the upgrade. You can order the parts on the computer at work, though, and you need 'common' and 'plumbing' upgrades parts to upgrade the sprinklers. Your sim won't need to worry about watering then. I don't think weeds will kill the plants, so you just need to worry about taking too many cuttings or bugs as killing dangers for the plants then. (Sorry the video is a bit clunky... I was in a hurry and not well oriented on the lot. Also, I had to remove the inner wall in the video, as the old version has stairs/foundation. There is no foundation at the lab, though. The 12x9 'Greenhouse Earth Room' room in my gallery has a version with no foundation and no inner wall, though.) Oh, just delete the whole room with the plants (move walls until none are left) in the basement when done.
