Can't add a second floor, nor stairs and no roof.

I just bought and down loaded Sims 4 Tiny Living.  I started building a tiny house and was going to add a second floor but the game just wouldn't let me.  I am unable to add stairs plus a roof.   Could you help me with this matter?

I tried to take a picture of it but my computer would not do it.  The error message is "Can't put stairs where there is not floor".  I tried putting floor on the second floor to create a place for the stairs to connect to but I could not lay down a second floor nor a roof.  I just gave up and got ride of the only mode I was using.  This is the first time I use a mod and the last time I will be using them.  Thank you for your help and support in this matter.  I deleted the lot.

A Tiny Living lot will give you a warning if you have gone over the allotted size, but it will still allow you to add the extra area, and stairs or a roof should also not be blocked. We could begin troubleshooting covering following:

Do you have Mods or CC (or have you ever had them)? If you do please remove them in this process and try the troubleshooting as described below. (If you don't have Mods or CC, just skip the part about removing the Mods folder, but still delete the cache files mentioned and run the repair.) If you ever had Mods or CC in the past then do the steps as if you have them currently (removing the Mods folder), as there could be damage that has remained after you removed them.

    • Exit your game then exit Origin. Please drag the Mods folder from your 'The Sims 4' folder onto your desktop (for future reference) then delete the localthumbnailcache.package file in your 'The Sims 4' folder. Also delete any other folders in the 'Sims 4' folder with word cache in the name. (When you restart the game it will automatically create a new Mods folder.)
    • Next please run a game repair [ Open Origin, click 'Game Library' then right-click Sims 4 > Repair Game ]. Make sure to let it run until it has completed all repairs (it will do the base-game first, then run through each of your expansions/packs). After that, please see if the issue has stopped.

If it was Mods/CC: If this fixes the issue I would recommend that you check with the Mod and CC creators to see if there are any known issues with their Mod/CC clashing with the recent update and if so do they have an updated Mod/CC that will address the changes in the game's code from the update. You can then re-add your updated Mods/CC one at a time to see if one was conflicting with the function/causing the glitch - but do not re-add the old config file from the old mods folder, as it is possible for it to have become corrupted also.

Let us know how it goes. Thanks!

Are you still having the issue? If so, are you getting any specific error messages when the game won't let you build the second floor? Can you post a screenshot of trying to place the stairs/roof and where the placement is?

Thanks for the update, really useful to know the error message. Can you remember what the Mod was?

Using 3rd party content can really enhance the game but you always need to make sure the CC/Mods are compatible with the current patch level of the game, which can become quite laborious ☹️

No I really don't remember the Mods name.  I wish I could remember the name.  I was very frustrated and deleted that too.

  • @sjean1995 When you rebuild your lot, if the error re-occurs please refer to the directions I posted about how to also clear out the cache and run a game repair. If the Mod was causing the issue, sometimes cached content can remain after it's removed, and clearing it out can fix remaining issues.

If you have errors or difficulties with building that remain please let us know and we can troubleshoot further. Thanks!
