Can't change wall height in a rental
Building a new rental lot and when I try to change the wall height it keeps saying I cannot make changes outside of owned area and i can't change the lot type either even though there are no people living there
There are a few things you can try.
Have a sim buy the lot. Then visit each apartment. Then have the sim sell the lot. You could also put tenants on the lot and then move them out. After the lot is unowned again and there are no tenants, then enter the lot in build from the map and see if you can change the venue and the wall height.
Another thing you can do with the landlord is change something in each apartment when you visit them. Move something, add something, delete something. It doesn't really matter what. Just a small change will do. Or move the landlord from apartment to apartment until they have lived in them all. Then move him out and sell the building. Then try to change the venue and wall height going to build from the map.
Try saving the lot to your Library and replacing the one that is there. You could also place it on another same size lot elsewhere too. Strange as it seems, but from helping other users here, sometimes, placing the lot on another lot than the one on which it was built can fix things. No guarantee it will work for you, it's been hit and miss. If it does work for you, then save it to your Library again, and put that one back on the original lot after bulldozing it. Although, for some folks, the original problem came back when they put it back on the original lot and for others, it didn't work at all.
You could also try saving the lot to your Library and then reinstalling it in another save as well. If you can change the venue and wall height then, save it again and place it again in the original save. If you can get all the room assignments changed back to shared, then you should be able to change the venue to residential. Sometimes, you have to change the room assignments before changing the venue. I have found that even a tenant can change the room assignments in their apartment to shared, except for one room.
And whatever you do, make a copy of the save before doing something like this so you have something to fall back on if none of those suggestions work.
Tbh, this sounds like some other posts where the lot was saved at some point with the lot being owned. That has been a big problem for some builds that are in the Gallery. You can do that with regular residential, haunted residential and regular apartments and people have done that a lot. Many test their lots, fix whatever problems they find, then save and upload directly to the Gallery with sims still on the lot. It hasn't been a problem before but with residential rentals, you simply can't do that. It seems that the saved lot retains something that makes it think it is owned. Anyone downloading the lot, you can't make any changes or in some cases, the lot is unplayable. The only thing you can do really is scrap the lot when it's like that. Even the original creator can't fix it if they didn't save a copy before changing the venue to residential rental sometimes. The things I have suggested are based on dealing with those posts and some of things that have worked for other players. I hope one of them work for you.
Hope this helps.
