[CD] [HR] NS: Adopt a Pet Causes Pets With Blank Breeds (1.121.342/2.28)
Pets adopted by unplayed households using Neighborhood Stories have no breed selected. When going in to CAS you are unable to save and go back to the world selection without selecting a breed. Unfortunately you can’t choose a breed; the space is greyed out, leading the player to have to delete the pet just to get out of CAS.

Yeah, I think it's one of these bug fixes that aren't retroactive.
Glad it works on a new save.
