Check mark button isn't clickable after I cheat a Vampire's Level or Powers

Product: The Sims 4

Date I noticed the bug: May 2nd 2024

Device type: Windows 11 Laptop

Hi. I've changed the Vampire level of some sims by using the Stats.Set_Stat RankedStatistic_Occult_VampireXP cheat, and ffter doing this, the points to select powers become available but I can't save any selection because the check mark in the power/weakness panel becomes isn't clickable anymore.

The same occurs with Power/Weakness cheats, even if they are just to remove/lock them again.

The check mark is becomes uncusable only after applying the cheat. Before it was clickable. Vampires that I didn't use a cheat on still have the button available. I don't want to use any cheats on them in case I break their button too.

I have already cleaned out CC/Mods as well as deleting the localtumbcache file but the button is still broken for vampires I used a cheat on.

Ironically, I can only give those vampires powers through more cheats as I can't click the checkmark to save otherwise.

  • @crinrict  I don't think so? I'm not very experienced when it comes to saves and all that so I don't mess around much with those. I can only share an attached screenshot of the saves that would correspond with the save I played when I cheated the vampire level. I don't know if any of the versions would serve as backup or if they would all be affected to be honest.

    Any suggestions?

@vicucha_sc   Hello!  Thanks for sharing that image.  It shows that you do have several versions.  I believe @crinrict was referring to a backup that you might have created manually?   If you haven't made any manual backups, then there is an in-game recover save option for those that you showed in your save folder.  When you launch the game, you can choose the Load Game option to see a list of saves to load.  In that view, there is an icon to click to Recover Save.

Clicking that button shows you the last five auto-save points.

Then you can check the time and click Recover on one that possibly was before you made any changes.  When you recover a save, the game will generate a save that uses your saved game name and also adds "recovered" at the end of the name.  This way you can test that save from before you made any unwanted changes without losing any progress in your current save.

  • The checkmark still works for me after using that cheat. Make sure you've assigned ALL your weaknesses. The checkmark will be grayed out until you do. I had to assign 4 weaknesses, for instance, to make the checkmark available again.

@vicucha_sc    Regarding the check mark issue, please check if there is a weakness requirement.  Each Vampire level requires you to add a weakness.  Look in the lower right corner of the Vampire Powers window.  Here my check mark is not available because I haven't selected 1 weakness.

If that's not the issue, do you use any mods? It's probably a good idea to test the game without mods.  Just move the mods folder out and delete the localthumbcache.package file located in the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 folder before opening the game for testing.  You probably want to create a new game for testing so you don't make any inadvertent changes to your current save while testing.

If it's not a mod issue, then it could be an issue with the order of adding the cheats.  Cheats can be unstable, so it's good idea to add level-up cheats in the order in which they would occur normally in the game.  You can see the steps I recommend for leveling up a vampire using cheats by clicking the spoiler below.

    Spoiler

First, if you have a normal sim that you want to turn to Vampire instantly, use the traits.equip_trait trait_OccultVampire cheat.  This starts the sim as a Fledgling Vampire, 2 perk points and no requirement for weakness.

Then use the stats.set_stat rankedStatistic_Occult_VampireXP 202 cheat to raise the level to Minor Vampire.  This adds 5 more perk points and a requirement for 1 weakness.

Repeat the process for adding the next levels one by one; using the perks if you wish and selecting the required number of weaknesses.
    stats.set_stat rankedStatistic_Occult_VampireXP 630 - for Prime Vampire
    stats.set_stat rankedStatistic_Occult_VampireXP 1058 - for Master Vampire
    stats.set_stat rankedStatistic_Occult_VampireXP 1486 - for Grand Master Vampire

For the Prime and Master levels, there is a requirement to select 1 weakness. At the Grand Master level, the requirement is 2 weaknesses.

Once the sim is a Grand Master, use the extra Vampire points cheat, which gives 2 points each time it is entered.
    stats.set_stat rankedStatistic_Occult_VampireXP 1593

You can enter that cheat multiple times to get as many points as you want for the perks.  This example shows 65 points that I added using that cheat.

When adding points at the Grand Master level, no additional weaknesses are required.

    I hope this helps!

EDIT: @Sketch793   Apologies!  I didn't see your post until after I posted this response.

  • @Sketch793 Hmm I believe I had the issue even when trying with weaknesses. In fact whenever I check now I've been trying by selecting weaknesses but you might be right that I might need to choose more? I'll pay attention to that next time I try it out
