child cant do homework

homework isnt in their inventory by default with either household i main
so i bouht it from the book case for both households. however the child of both familys cant do ANYTHING except make an heirloom out of it. its always the only option for all sims.
i already removed all of my mods and that did diddly squat so im unsure what i can even do to fix it

    @ByunRosie Did you make sure to buy the correct homework? If your sim is still a child, it will be orange. They can’t use the high school or university homework, which sometimes causes confusion when you have to purchase it for them.
