I was still having this problem and just tried viewing different objects in the museum in Willow Creek. I let the action complete and then it worked. I think I expected the action to satisfy the thing after a few seconds of viewing but once I just let the action run its course naturally, it worked.

I think many might have the issue of not just waiting long enough. The task doesn't complete instantly once you click "view", you have to wait until the action is done i.e. until the sim stops doing it. It takes a short while.
Edit: but yes, it doesn't actually say "study historical displays" but instead "view" with Emits icon on it. - Llulubear11 months agoNew Novice

Trowicia's solution works like a charm! Still super annoying, though.

I was getting this same issue, tried this and it worked for me to complete the quest requirement, however the quest text implied something was supposed to be in my inventory afterwards, but I couldn't find anything new.

Thank you so much! This somewhat worked for me. I placed both items in a museum like you said, but it still only showed "View" with Emit's face. I then went back into Build Mode to delete the items and as soon as I deleted them the quest completed for me haha
