cooking aborts off grid

I am trying to play using the off-grid lot challenge,  and my sims cannot complete cooking unless I turn that challenge off.  The food goes in the oven, and then they stop and the food disappears. When I try the same interaction without that challenge, my sims can eat.

cindi_mckay  Since you play along historical lines, one work around you can try is to use solar panels under the pitched roof on your houses by placing them in an attic space.  The panels will work that way.  I do it a lot for lots where I don't want them seen.  You do need to upgrade them first and you'll need MOO on to place them.  Doing that should give you the power you need to run both the stove and fridge.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi cindi_mckay

Could you please provide the following information

    -  Are you using mods/cc in your game ? Please remove them and test without them if you do.
    - Please also provide any LastException/LastCrash files in your documents folder. Upload them to either google or oneDrive and post the link here.

I am using mods and cc, as I'm trying to play Morbid's Ultimate Decades Challenge, so am going for a medieval theme at the moment. I tested it in a new game with mods disabled and my sim was able to make grilled cheese, so I don't know if its the stove or the recipe my medieval sims are using that is causing the issue.  Grr. I don't have any LE/LC files, sorry.

Yes, although because I have just started this save, and am playing with both simple living and off grid enabled, I've only been able to try gruel and pottage. But the same issue occurs with both recipes. The sim prepares the food, but is unable to complete it.

If you want to cook full meals on OTG lots on any of the stoves, then you'll need to add either solar panels, wind turbines or power generators until you have enough power to run the stove and any other electrical devices you have on the lot.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks for your help.  I actually like to make family meals, as I generally play with large family households and more historical story lines, and having each sim have to prepare their own meals doesn't really fit my stories. Yes, sometimes food goes to waste, but not usually, as I add ice to the fridge. It would be very nice to have more cooking options available for off-grid life, as well as more realistic.  I mean, people were making family meals and baking bread way before electricity was discovered and harnessed.

Thank you so much! I was trying to figure out how to hide power-generating items on my lot. This is genius!
