Cottage living doors
Hiya, anyone know if the mailbox on the new doors function? As a british person this would be awsome!

@PurpleCookie1401 , @Bluebellflora , @Sindocat , @TTZ_Dipsy , many houses in the U.S. have mail slots instead of mailboxes! 🤨 However these are usually on older homes. I know that really older houses had mail slots in the doors. But even as recent as the 1950's, 60's , and 70's had mail slots! 😎 But it really depended on the style of the house. We had many friends with mail slots in the door (and one set in the wall next to the door!) that were built in the '50s, '60s , & '70s. I never thought of certain mailboxes as a British thing, or an American thing, or from any country in particular. To me they were just different styles. 😊
The house I grew up in was built at the very end of the '60s but it wasn't the mailbox on a pole like most in the Sims 4... it looked more like the Snail Box that came with the Snowy Escape EP! 😎 Most people in my neighborhood had this type. They were hung on the wall next to the front door. (Though the older half of my neighborhood had the boxes on poles like in TS4... but those houses were designed by a different building company than the ones that built the houses in my part of the neighborhood where all of the mailboxes were by the front door and not by the street! )
And then there is a 4th type of mailbox that became popular in the 90's with new houses, and it is the type of mailbox I currently have. They are big ugly boxes with about 8 or 9 smaller boxes with locks on them out by the street. They are easier for the postal service to make their deliveries because they just pull the mail truck up to the giant box and do everything without getting out of the truck! I hate these mailboxes looks as it makes an otherwise pretty neighborhood very ugly. However I do love that there is a lock on everybody's individual boxes with in the big box so I am happy about that, and that is more important than looks.
And both this type of mailbox and mail slots in the doors are the best at protecting your mail from being stolen! 🙌 (But mail slots are a whole lot prettier!) 😅
I do wish the new doors with the decorative mail slots would function in the game! I think that would be a really nice touch and also enable many people (even in the U.S.!) recreate their homes! 🥰
- @PugLove888 I didnt realise the US had them! Just seen so many cottage living videos where US folk/anyone outside of the UK thought it was a bit weird aha
Hopefully they make them functional!@PurpleCookie1401 , yes, I can see how you might not know the US had mail slots in some houses. They aren't as popular here as they used to be. But when I was little, I had a friend with one and we would pretend one of us was in prison and pass notes through her mail slot and even a nail file (for prison escape! ) but silly us just had a flimsy emery board! 🤦♀️🤣 We would even pass crackers or cookies through it.
Also her dog would get mad when the mailman delivered their mail!
The people in the cottage living videos you saw, that live outside of the UK who thought the mail slots were weird or who didn't know what they were are younger (at least younger than me!) and probably have never seen them used here because they aren't really in fashion anymore. 🤨 That was probably why they thought them weird. I saw some videos like that as well! 😅
I do hope they make mail slots functional as well! 🤞 I love the look , and it would be nice if it actually functioned! Also a lot of people just want to recreate their own house as accurately as possible! 🥰 The current mailboxes we have in the game don't really match the aesthetic !
