This issue should now be resolved.

I think I've found the reason why error 533 is happening, and a working solution (as of now).
My sister has been receiving the 533 error while trying to save. She has been playing on the same save for quite a while, leading to quite a few households dying off with only one ghost remaining. These single ghosts are living in houses, but do not appear to actually be registered in the game as households in household manager. I went ahead and deleted all of the ghost "households" by evicting them from their houses, which placed them in the household manager. That seemed to fix the issue for now!
If you don't want to delete the ghosts for whatever reason, I suggest trying to re-create a household for them.
If the 533 error comes back, I'll edit this post to let you all know. Hopefully this helps, and if it works for you please let me know! 🙂
They should be deleted in the first place but it could be consistent with the ghost club leaders that others have been seeing.

My sister has received the 533 error as well yesterday and I did what you suggested: evicted the lone ghost living in a house and she could save.
Problem is, today when she tried to load the game, everything was messed up: sims had random clothes on them and most of them turned bald. Do you have any idea what might cause this?
Is she using custom content in her game ? Is that still working ?
Does she use custom content- specifically hair and clothes? My sister had an issue where she downloaded CC but it wouldn't show up in her game. When I fixed her game by deleting the ghosts, the CC showed up. The only reason for this problem- that I can think of- is that by deleting the ghosts, custom content (that was not showing up due to the 533 error and/or lone ghosts) became 'activated' when she deleted the ghosts. So now, she may have custom hair without meshes (which show up as bald in game) and clothing popping up suddenly in game. To check this, I suggest going into CAS and seeing if there are any CC hairs without meshes aka ones that are bald. If there are mesh-less hairs, delete them from the CC folder.
