For Rent - Haunting forced my Sims to pay huge fines

Is there a way to turn off the Haunting feature? Twice now, a ghost has appeared in my Sims' apartment and destroyed everything in sight. The first time, my Sim called the Property Owner, and it was taken care of promptly. The second time, the ghost appeared while my Sims were at work and destroyed everything before they got home. The landlord gave them a huge fine for having water and trash piles everywhere even though it wasn't my/their fault. I called the Property Owner to visit, and he went around fixing broken sinks and toilets instead of getting rid of the ghost. Meanwhile the ghost continued to break more stuff. My Sims got ANOTHER fine because the ghost just kept making messes as fast as they cleaned it up, and the property owner wouldn't do anything about it, just kept cleaning the grill and mopping puddles. Absolutely the worst aspect of this expansion pack. My Sims ended up owing over 1000 Simoleons more than their rent just in fines. I moved them out in manage worlds to avoid paying it. My Sims couldn't even take care of their basic needs because all the toilets and showers were broken. When I had my Sim confront the ghost and try to do exorcism, it didn't fulfill the requirement for the so-called "event". How do I stop this from happening again? Can I turn the feature off? It makes me want to uninstall the pack I hate it so much.
