Gabled roof clipping into room, how to fix this?!

This is becoming increasingly infuriating. I JUST want to make this look nice. I'm redesigning a default house and I refuse to use any other roof setup than the one I've chosen, but because of that, I'm having a glaring issue I can't get rid of. I HATE gabled roofs normally, but it looks really nice (from the front/walls up) -- no door yet, still working on the walls... windows are another separate problem (where the tops get blocked off by the gabled roof portion above them)

But then this crap happens and I'm lost as to how to fix it. I can resize the room but then there's a gap between the roofing and the wall. :/ Wtf EA.

I'm trying to go for an open area in the front with the hexagonal wall shape, so I didn't put flooring there (not that it'd let me anyway).

  • @sinamuna  You can among other things, pull the different arrows when the roof is selected, to change what part of the roof you extend. There are one round arrow for enlarging the whole roof piece, and another for just the outer layer, the arrow for that is more flat. If you press Shift and then drag that one, only one side of the roof is elongated.

Sometimes these things are just visible in build mode, not in live mode; so check that with a testsim.

If it is visible in live mode, and the resizing does not fit your vision, you can make a small room by the roof clipping, to encase it.

Let me know if I should post pictures.

Here is one guide on roof building, there are much more on The Official Sims Forum

  • @sinamuna Hi!  First I want to say I really like that design. :-)  Also, roofs in this game are the bane of my existence!  So I feel your pain.  Not that long ago, I learned that roofs will extend into a room if it doesn't appear to be a fully finished room.  I'm not sure how you built yours but this is what I did in my test.  I created the ground floor by using the room tool to place the large back room then the custom room tool to draw the front hexagonal room. I did the same for the second floor but the back room is smaller to leave room for the gabled roof.

Then I deleted the wall between the front and back room.

The roof extends a bit on the outside but not the interior of the room.  In your current house, you could try using the room tool in the back part, then place the roof and delete the wall between the rooms.  I hope this helps!

Edit:  Looking back at the images you shared, I notice there is light showing in the hexagonal room which suggests that room is not a complete room (missing the ceiling).  Page up to the next level to check the ceiling for both front and back rooms.  You can click inside the room to highlight it, then click the yellow outline to build ceiling but you may need to use the custom room tool to redraw that room and make sure it's complete to then be able to add a ceiling.

@sinamuna Are you playing on PC? If you are you can hold shift on the end you don't want to stick out, you can move it on without moving the end that is on display at the front of house. That way, it won't clip inside. I am not sure what the controls are for console though.
  • @JonaO703 YOU! 3 years later, and YOU saved my bacon🥲 was losing my mind trying to do the roof from clipping into the room. isn't my original design, so I had no idea the original creator didn't use the tool. honestly didn't even know about it or that it mattered.
