hired nanny cooks/cleans up and ignores infant while infant needs decline

My household with an infant hired a nanny to help out while they hosted a dinner party event. The guest list was maxed out at 15, so the parent Sims were busy cooking and entertaining guests to clear the tasks. The nanny showed up when the event started and immediately started cooking. During the entire event the nanny cooked or cleaned up instead of caring for the infant. The infant's needs dropped to the red for hunger, energy, and fun - Attention and hygiene were in the yellow. The family dismissed the nanny after the event and cared for the infant.

The same household hosted a second event the next day and hired a nanny. The same nanny showed up and did the exact same thing. Instead of caring for the infant the nanny cooked and cleaned up. After the event the nanny was dismissed and left immediately while the family cared for the infant. This time the infant's hygiene, hunger, and energy were in the red. Attention and fun were in the yellow.

Anyone else notice the nannies are not taking care of the infants/toddlers?

What worked: multiple sims did not try to care for the infant at the same time

What didn't work: nanny did not care for the infant when hired

  • Hi blak_kat320

to be sure, you didn't disable caregiver autonomy in the game options ?

Does she do her job if you hire her outside of an event ?

    Hi crinrict !

I had to have another household give birth to test this because the toddler aged up in the home where the original event happened. A different nanny responded in the original event, but I didn't record which nanny showed up. Disable Caregiver Autonomy for Infants is OFF in my game option settings. Everyone else has full autonomy as well, including townies.

    I think this is fixed.

I ran three senarios for the newborn in this household - hire caregiver without an event with both parents at home, hire caregiver with active event (Dinner Party) and hire caregiver before work/leaving the lot. Hire Nanny was selected using the bassinette the first two times. The same nanny showed up both times, Alana Valadez. Both times the nanny did exactly what she was supposed to do and focused on the newborn. During the first visit the newborn was asleep. The nanny came in and immediately prepared a meal that overrode one sim's prepare group meal action, but then tended to the newborn as soon as it woke up and focused on the newborn the rest of the time it was there. During the second visit the newborn was up and crying (dirty diaper interaction) and the nanny prioritized care for the newborn. So for this household the hire nanny interaction worked exactly as it should have in those two senarios.

The last senario was to replicate a long standing bug. The nanny was hired before one parent sim left for work using the phone to call a service. The same nanny (Alana Valadez) showed up and talked to the working parent before she left for work. When the parent left the nanny interacted with the newborn. The second parent left the lot and was gone several hours before going to work. When the second parent left for work the newborn became the active sim and the nanny was still inside the home (not outside near the lot) and the newborn was still in the bassinette (not outside in the neighborhood). The nanny interacted and responded to the newborn exactly the way it should. This last senario is a big fix, so thanks Sims team for this one! For a while nannys were not staying in the home or caring for the newborn/infants/toddlers when adult sims left the lot. Many of my families had multiple births and it was a nightmare getting the babies' needs taken care of without using cheats.

I haven't tested for infants or toddlers yet. Please let  me know if you want me to check them, but the Hire Nanny service interaction seems to work as intended for newborns.

    Thanks for following up!

    Hi blak_kat320

Really up to you if you want to test them or not.

Since it seems to work now, I moved it to gameplay but if you do decide to test toddlers/infants and are still having issues, please tag me so I can move it back.
