How can I/my sim duplicate a fish?

Hi,

My sim is trying to complete all collections, he's a spellcaster and knows copypasto, I want him for each fish he collects to have one mounted and have one in a pond or aquarium, so I can display the hard work in both ways, and some fish are so hard to catch (I still didn't manage to catch the anglerfish and I'm still on base game fishes), so I don't want to do it twice.

I didn't find a way to duplicate a fish, also with copypasto, that works on almost anything else, someone suggested I save a room with an aquarium with a fish I want to duplicate and then that room should have it again when I place it, but it's empty when I place it again.

Anyone else have some other idea? I'm OK with cheats, mods, or anything, as long as I caught the first one legitimately (btw it's important that both fish will say my sim caught them, so going for debug items isn't a good answer, if the fish are even there, I don't know, I didn't check because it wouldn't help).

I don't mind my sim going for science career to get the duplicating thing there, he will do science career anyway, but that duplicating machine seems much more limited (compared to copypasto) and as far as I know you wouldn't be able to place a fish on any surface anyway.

Thanks.

  • Thank you so much, that got me to figure out the solution  (to whoever else might be reading I'll explain), in the comment you linked I saw you were able to put fish on surfaces, so I tried it again (I tried it before and it showed as if it wouldn't allow it, so I didn't do it, now I ignored it and placed it anyway) and it worked, next I tried to copypasto, there is no option for that, only option is to mount, can't do anything else when clicking on it (of course you can drag it), so I tried placing it in a tiny room, save it to the library, then place the room I saved, and it came with that fish, and still even had the sims name on it as the catcher 🙂.

Thank you for that missing piece.

  • @grreat85 I'm not sure if anything in the experiments I did for this past post will be of any help to you, but I thought I'd reference it here for your information. It involves fish saved in a room to your library, plus an angelfish in the gallery: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-Fish-from-buydebug-mode-can-t-be-selected/m-p/9130518#M131680

Also, the mounted fish in debug may not say your Sim's name on them, but if they are the secondary ones (gotten by 'cheating'), I personally would be fine with the name not being on it. I agree with you, if you caught the first one, you have all of the satisfaction (and credit for accomplishments, etc.) that the Sim needs. I highly doubt there is any manner of copying a fish that would bring the name with it.

@grreat85 I'm so glad it was helpful! I just did an experiment right after posting and found I could copy the mounted fish and retain info. I just went into that save and dragged a fish labeled caught by my sim into his inventory and selected, while in his personal inventory, for it to be mounted. Then I dragged the mounted fish onto the wall of a one-tile room, saved the room to the library, and the mounted fish retained the sim's name in it's label/info.

I'm so glad to hear your way also retained the name on the fish (not sure why I was stuck on the mounted version!)!  🙌
