@KatMagic1985 Are you on PC/Mac or console?
As suggested by @o-BialyLis-o you can travel to the vet clinic first. Then click the icon on the pet to call them over. The pet should appear in the area then you can go check them in at the vet.
Which brings up another thought. Are you using the Vet Clinic that came with Brindleton Bay or a custom lot? If something is missing from the lot the game may not be able to recognize it as a valid Vet clinic.
If all the above is in order (and you are not on console) there might by a mod or cc that is interfering.
Try removing (not disabling) mods / cc and delete the localthumbcache.package and any other cache files.
Test the game to see if the issues are still there.
