If sims 4 legacy edition d why do I have to update my sims?

I read that the legacy edition does receive new patchworks or updates, so why do I have to update my game?

  • @Notorious_Lancya  The way the Legacy Edition is designed, it works as an add-on, like a pack rather than a standalone version of the game.  So the underlying game files get patched whether the LE is installed or not.

The other point is that some people have the LE installed on their computers but don't use it, launching the 64-bit version instead.  (This is often an accident—people didn't know what they were downloading—or because Origin told them to download the LE when they didn't need it.)  So if the presence of the LE were to block game updates, people who had it installed but were playing the standard version wouldn't get updates either.

Thank you for explaining it. I also was confused and couldn't find a good answer anywhere else. Does it update it the 32-bit version the same way as the 64-bit version? Does it include new features like platforms and sentiments? I have a 32-bit 2009 Macbook Pro and always play the game offline.

  • @smcaaz  The Legacy Edition does not get updates, unfortunately.  So even though the game files are being patched, there's no practical effect on gameplay in the LE.  That means no platforms or anything else that didn't exist in Sims 4 a year ago.

Just to clarify, your Mac and its operating system are 64-bit.  Sims 4 is and has always been 64-bit in macOS, just not in Windows.  The issue with older Macs like yours is that they don't support Metal, which is a graphics API that the standard version of Sims 4 now uses rather than the older OpenGL.
