Improved Family Trees

I saw that the missing connections in family trees got fixed, but it has reminded me how I wish they would update the family trees. What I'm talking about is step-parents acknowledging their step-children on the family tree and half-siblings don't see each other as full siblings. It doesn't seem to be consistent throughout my saves, but it seems that step-parents/children made in the initial cas vs in manage world seem to bug out the most. And step-parents that share a kid with the step-child's parent bugs out as well.

Here is an image of the half-brother with his older half-sister being shown as a full sibling, not a half-sibling.

With the same family, here is the older half-sister who is registering her brother as half and not whole (which is how is should be). It also shows her step-father, in his tree she doesn't appear.

With the same family, here is the step-father who does not register his step-daughter on the family tree.

With a different family, the step-father has his step-son appearing on the family tree. Unlike the other examples previous, he does not share a child with his step-son's mother.

Here is another family where the family tree is a bit wonky. The sim and his younger half-sister are being shown as full siblings through their dad while his step-mom (his sister's mother) is shown as their step-mother (again, half-sister is step-mom's daughter with their dad). Looking at step-mom's tree, the sister shows as her daughter, but step-son is nowhere to be seen. When going to the sister, it shows her brother as a half-sibling through their dad and her mom as her mom.

I have included two more screenshots that show what the family trees should look like. I know that on occasion it shows up correctly, I just wish it was consistent. It is frustrating when step-parents don't show their step-children on their family trees in most cases. It's frustrating when half-siblings register as full siblings depending on who is selected (doesn't matter if one sibling has only one parent or both in game. It is still the same.) I know this isn't a major game breaking thing, it's just annoying and frustrating as it does work once in a while, but not always.

  • @DracuAlice2017 For the 2 half siblings that are showing up together, did the older sibling ask the step parent to be caregiver? Because if so, that might explain why the family tree is showing the way that it is?

I know some of them, yes. I was wondering about that as well. I tried to remove a step-parent as a care giver, but maybe I didn't wait long enough or had to save and restart the save. I'd have to go through my saves again.

Edit: Made a fresh new save with a blended family (older sister has a different father to her younger brother). The father of the older sister exists in the game along with his own family. I have not had the older sister/step-father adopt each other as dependant/caregiver. The family tree is still being wonky.

Here is the family tree with the older sister's view. It's how it should be. She has not adopted her step-father nor step-mother as caregivers.

Here is the view of her maternal half-brother, which shows them as full despite them not being full siblings (again, step-dad is not adopted as caregiver and this is fresh out of cas).

This is the step-dad's family tree and his step-daughter is absent.

This is from the view of her paternal half-sister. I have no idea why this is showing up properly and not the maternal half-brother's. I didn't do anything differently here.

Here is the step-mom's family tree. Same problem as step-dad's tree. For some reason, the step-kids don't appear on their step-parent's tree (I've noticed this with step-parents who share a kid(s) with the bio-parents of the step-kids) when looking at the step-kids tree, they show up.

  • Ok, I just noticed this with a family I made straight out of CAS. It consists of two half-brothers (there are no parents made, so they have the unknown parent as a placeholder in the family tree). When viewing from either brother, the unknown parent doesn't appear and there is no connection shown that there is a relationship between them. When viewing the tree with any of the kids, the unknown grandparent appears. It looks like the fix works for trees with known grandparents but not for trees with unknown grandparents.
