Is it possible to recover lost save information through tray files?

I deleted my save file on accident without realizing that it would delete the houses I created, not just the gameplay/sims. I've tried recovering through the recovery option in the load game section and through changing the file name in the save folder but I can only get to the save I created after deleting my old ones. I'm not concerned about gameplay lost since I mainly used it to build and I'm just wondering if there's any other way to recover the deleted builds. I would like to know if there's any way to recover those lots not saved to my library through the tray folder. If not, are there any other methods to recover my lost save/builds?

Well, it sounds like you're in a bit of a pickle.

As you found out, the save files contain everything regarding that played game. Houses, sims, townies, objects, clothing worn, hair, etc. absolutely everything.

Your Tray folder contains everything in your library. Things saved outside of the save. If you managed to save a copy of a house or a sim to your library, they will still be in the Library/Tray folder and unaffected by your deleting the saves.

I always tend to save houses (my good ones) to the library so if I start a new save, I can just place the lot back down.

If you didn't copy them to your library, then your problems increase tenfold.

You can look in your Recycle bin but I doubt you'll find anything there. Can't hurt to check.

There ARE ways of recovering deleted files on PCs, even IF you emptied the recycle bin, but it would take a decent computer tech and special software to recover them. Even then, the chances of recovering those files are slim if you've continued to use the PC.

You could pay a company to recover them, but it'd be quite expensive. You'd have to weigh your options... how badly do you really want those lots back?

Unless someone else has an idea, that's all I've got.

  • I figured they were probably gone for good. I wasn't too attached to them but it is a huge disappointment that I have to start from scratch, lesson learned. Thanks for the help!

I feel ya. I've been there. I'm sure the majority of us here have done that at some point. It's the main reason WHY I save a copy of all my good houses to the library now. If I accidentally delete a save, I have a copy of all my good builds in the library ready to go.

Same thing with downloading lots off the gallery.  I never download from the gallery and just place them immediately. I always download a lot from the gallery directly to my library and place it from there. That way if I delete the save, I can just place the lot again without having to search and find it in the gallery again.

You can also back up your "Electronic Arts/The Sims 4" folder in your Documents folder somewhere to have yet another backup... Just-in-case.
