Loading previous save

Hello, my girlfriend and I are having trouble with the sims. I don’t play it, however she does and loves it. Recently she’s been playing a lot and she’s been making a bunch of sims. I don’t know if you call it a “famiky” or “new world” but basically she will make a new sim, make a house for it and do everything one does when creating a new sim. She will eventually save and get off for the night only to do the same thing the next day and everything is fine and dandy, however when she wants to go back to those “family’s” or “worlds” (I’m sorry I don’t know much about the game at all) it won’t let her play previous ones she’s made that she wants to go back to, only the most recent. Those “worlds” or “families” will show up in her library/gallery or however it is, but there is no play button or anything allowing her to enter that specific world. She has a world where it’s her and I, she also has another where she is a veterinarian, she cannot go back to those and play them, even though they’re there to be played, just not allowing her to and we don’t know why she can play her most recent creations, but not her old ones even though they’re right there, what’s the deal and how can she play those? She’s giving up and I don’t know how to help her despite endless googling, any help would be awesome because she’s sad and I don’t want her to be. Thank you so much

What it sounds like to me, is that she is creating a new save every time she makes a family or house (lot) by using the New Game button on the Main Menu rather than Load Game or Resume.  For you to see if that is the case, start the game.  On the Main Menu, hit the Load button.  Once the selection panel opens, look at the save files.  Each one should have an icon showing the last family played in that save.  If each save shows a different family, then that's what she's probably doing.

So, if she wants all those families and their houses in the same save, it's going to take a bit of work on her part.  The families should be the easiest.  They should all be in her Library and can be added to any save easily by using the Load button to open a save.  Once on the world screen, just hit the light bulb looking button at the top right and once the panel opens, click the My Library tab. Click on a family and use the Install button on the lower right to place that family in a house.

Getting all her lots into the same save is where the work comes in.  She will need to open each save and go to each house.  Open the house in build mode and use the save button at the center top of the screen to save the lot to her Library.  Once she's done that for each lot, then she will be able to place them all in the same save just like she can with the families.

Then it's just a matter of installing all the lots and families from the library.  Houses and families install the same way using the install button in the lower right of their Library portrait.

    Hope this helps.

@CGrant56 We will try that when we get home, but what if she doesn’t want all those families on the same save? I think she wants them separate and to play them separately, so if this “fix” isn’t what we’re looking for, what else would you recommend? I suppose you don’t need to respond with another fix just yet since we’re not home to try out what you recommend currently but I hope you are around later should we still need help. In the meantime thank you for your response and I hope this works. I just know she can play some of the new ones she’s created and can’t play some of her old ones that she’s put more time into

To load an older game she needs to click the Load Game button select the game and choose Play. Though she can see her Library from the main menu by selecting Gallery first there are no play button there as it does not contain the saves.

She doesn't have to combine all the families and houses into a single save.  I suggested that simply because that is how I interpreted your original post and so, I told you what needs to be done to do that.  She can play every family in a separate save with no problem if that is what she wants to do.  All she has to do is as @jpkarlsen said, use the Load menu to select the save she wants to play.  The Resume button can be used too, but all that does is take you to the last save played.  If that's the one she wants to play when she starts the game, then use that button.  If she wants to switch and play another family in another save, use the Load button, pick the save and play.

Keep in mind that you only play one family at the time.  You can have dozens of families in the same save, all in different houses.  While you play one family, the others just sort of sit there waiting for you to get around to playing them again.  They will show up out in the worlds but depending on your game aging and other settings, they can be almost exactly as they were when you last played them the next time you go to play them, but your active family can interact and build friendships, romances, etc. with them. If you don't want that kind of play, then one family per save is the way to go.  If you do want those interactions, then a single or a few saves is the way to go.  It's entirely up to the player how they choose to play.

One thing about saves.  The more saves you have, the longer it takes the selection panel to open when you use Load.  And I have seen reports here where people had problems getting the list to display because they had so many.  So, imo, it is probably best to keep the total number of active saves to no more than what you actually need.

    Hope this helps.
