My Saved Files Are Corrupted

I'm having every simmer's worst nightmare- my saved files are corrupted and I need to know if I can recover them.

Scenario: I was just playing my game like normal, but I noticed that the loading times were WAAAY longer than usual. I saved my game numerous times just in case of a crash. Finally, when I went to visit a different lot, the game took so long to load that I ran task manager and closed it. Somewhere, somehow I got the error: "The exception breakpoint". I opened up the game again and I could not get my saved game to open after that.

The game was all f-ed up so I saved the entire "The Sims 4" folder onto my external hard drive as a backup. Then I deleted everything and booted up the sims in a fresh new state. It worked just fine.

So, I figured it was a mod that was causing the crash so I tediously one-by-one added all my mods back into the game to find a faulty mod. I was having issues with the mod so I deleted it and I successfully was able to play the game using the mods under a new game. But, I wanted to play my old game.

Since I found the mod that was causing problems (or so I thought), I found my saved games and pasted them back into the game. But when I went to play the game, the game crashed before the saved game could load. I had 4 or 5 saves so I tried to recover my previous saves, but every single save was corrupted. I have no idea why.

Which now presents my new problem- I worked hundreds of hours creating lots and I want to know if I can recover these lots so I can play them in a new game. I have all of my households saved in the library which works fine, but not the lots. Is there any way I can recover those corrupted save files and at least recover my custom lots, if not the whole game? Please help because I spent at least 1000 hours in real-life time building those lots.

  • @RetroSoulGirl I hate to say it, but if you didn't back up those saves anywhere else before they were corrupted...methinks they're kaput :/ If you know anybody with programming skills, you might be able to run the files through a data recovery tool, but generally speaking...it's not looking good.
  • Yeah they're probably all messed up. I guess I'll start a new game *cries*

No, I didn't know how to save my lots to the library until now. It's okay, I've decided to start a new game. I have no choice so no use in crying over it :/

I had to do that recently. It's hard when it's an old save. ❤️ I hope you fall in love with your new one! I finally did with mine, but it took a while.
