This has been an issue, I'm sorry to say. I know that oftentimes removing mods is the answer, but I also have a Rock Star in my game. I use a mod QuickWrite by sonicsim. The issue I was having was such that no matter how long he wrote, he never finished, and instead of him being able to resume (like it used to work), he was constantly starting all over again. With this mod, he's done in a flash. Best of luck to you.
