My sim children are starving themselves

I have one sim in my family that will walk up to the plate take a serving or the whole plate and walk away, put it in his inventory and then will complain that he’s starving and won’t eat the food he’s placed in his inventory.

He always does it when I am focused on another sim so I never notice until he’s uncomfortable and complaining he’s hungry, and by then all the food is spoiled.
He’s a child so I’ll usually go into his inventory to get him to do his homework and there will be like 5 plates of spoiled food.

He is obviously eating because he’s not always starving, but it keeps happening so I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and knows how to fix it
