Nanocan trash can no longer giving money back for trash?

First of all, I'll state that I don't have any mods or custom content in my game.  Now with that stated, I think Business and Hobbies "broke" the nanocan trash can that gives you a small amount of money back to your sims's family funds when you put trash in it.  I don't remember which EP/GP the nanocan came with, but I have it and since I got Business and Hobbies, there's no money back from the nanocan trash can for the trash my sims put into such?  Repairing my game did not solve the issue.  Does anyone have any advice on this?  Please and thank you!
