There's a bug report for school: Can’t follow teen sims to highschool | EA Forums - 4955129 and EA is looking for saves for this one.
I take it you don't get the prompt to at all ?
Could you test another household /save to see if it works there ? Maybe the issue with the teens affects the careers as well if they are in the same household.
