I've just had a quick look in Bug Reports while I was on there to see if there are any reported issues but couldn't see any other reports.
I have a feeling all of this will be addressed in the new family expansion pack that's on the way pretty soon, at least I hope it is.
Most of my little Sims are adopted through the computer but I have had one widower marry again and his new wife luckily got high friendship quickly with his little boy, then she adopted him.
I also had one family who lost their familial links to each other when I saved them and added them back into my game, they still had a high relationship though and I didn't notice till they were chatting with their daughter and Adopt as Caregiver popped up in the conversation.
@simsplayer818 The Successful Lineage Aspiration furthers my point about step-parents being delegitimized. One of the goals for that Aspiration is "Become a Parent" and it's not considered fulfilled. The goal "Socialize with Your Child 10 Times" doesn't count socializing with a step-child. So, yeah. You're married to their mother, you love them, take care of them, and nurture them, but too bad. You're not really their parent. You're just someone who hangs around. Doesn't mean anything. Kind of sickening to be honest. I seriously hope they put this right one day.

I'll keep an eye out for this is my game. I just added an adult briefly to the Munch household to see if it popped up with little Lucas because I've seen it with other adults in households, even with a parent there. But it didn't pop up in conversation. So I'm going to keep looking out for it.- iamsweetmystery3 years agoSeasoned Ace
@simsplayer818 People have been teaching for decades about how there are many types of families, but Sims 4 has been around for 9 years and they still haven't let us properly adopt step-children, which is something that happens all the time in real life. Because of this, step-parents miss out on Family-class Aspiration rewards. Anyway, if Adopt as Caregiver is exclusive to Parenthood, you'll likely have it available, whereas (at least on PS4) I won't since I haven't yet gotten that pack on that system. Though, I wouldn't mind if you tested if the Caregiver status allows the step-parents to use the Successful Lineage and Big Happy Family Aspirations. If you do test that, please get back to me and let me know if it's a viable workaround (though adopting step-children shouldn't really require add-ons, imo).
- simsplayer8183 years agoHero@iamsweetmystery I'll keep a note to test that. I'm adding my families back as I wiped my game because of crashing so I'll be putting my step parents back at some point. I agree, in fact when I see what the new expansion pack will be offering I don't think that should be paid content either, except for the new world.
