On the Subject of "Public Death"

This is one mechanic that has always annoyed me in TS4, public death. Imagine: You take your Sim out to have a good time, but what's this? It would seem that a complete stranger or person that your Sim barely knows at all has decided to die on the lot! Your Sim has to drop literally everything they're doing to go over and witness the death. There's absolutely NO stopping them. Not only that, but you can't simply leave in order to prevent them from witnessing it either, because you're locked out of leaving the lot "while a Sim is dying." Then... BAM! Your Sim is "very sad" for two days because of someone they don't even know dropping dead on the lot!

Pretty annoying, is it not? As such, I have a suggestion for how to potentially fix this problem: Make it so that unplayed Sims can only die if they are not currently on the same lot as your played Sims. This way, no dying people will be able to ruin your Sims' fun. They'll be able to go out and have a good time without suffering an unwanted two-day sad moodlet, and you won't have to worry about any guests kicking the bucket at their social events either.

  • Isn't it kind of normal to be upset when someone dies right in front of you? :')

I mean.... If you're at a party and someone dies all of a sudden, people will gather around and be upset about it too, right? Even if you didn't know the person.

I think it's normal for the sim to be upset. But I do agree that 2 days is a bit too long.

Maybe they could make a different moodlet for when a sim sees someone who they didn't know die. Like for a couple of hours they'll be upset.  But not 2 days.

Yeah, I didn't say that it was completely and totally unrealistic for them to be at least a little sad at witnessing a stranger's death. What is annoying, however, is how we can't have our Sims leave the lot in order to them from prevent witnessing the death, and they're forced to go over there and witness it, giving them that horrible, powerful two-day sad moodlet. If it was a very close friend or family member, I could definitely understand the moodlet being that strong, but for a complete stranger? Not so much.

I definitely agree with you. If the above cannot be done, then I do think that it would be a good compromise to just make the moodlet for witnessing a stranger or minor acquaintance's death significantly shorter. A few hours, rather than two whole days. All in all, there seems to be a lot of problems with this kind of thing lately.

I have a house in Windemburg on an island.  My Sims had a New Year's Eve party.  It was freezing outside.

Two of their guests dropped dead before they got into the house.

Luckily, I had a stack of Death Flowers and saved them from death.

It has become pretty annoying though just to see your guests drop dead at a social event and then having to run out

I'm closing this thread to stop it from being necroed.
